is thier a limt to the amount of cover passes or does it depend on how much room is left from each side of the bevel?
Reply:You have to fill the crack. Dont bevel back any farther than you have to to get a good weld.
Reply:anything more than 1/8" over the top of the base metals and sides is specified in some contract documents i have seenVantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:If you're doing stick, leave yourself some room to put a nice cap on. As said above,no more than 1/8 inch high..Tig welding, I run flush, than cap..
Reply:If stick welding, you dont want to run anymore than 1/8" wider than your bevel and no more than 1/8" taller than the plate when putting in your cap. Minimum for height and width should be 1/16"Fill amount depends on what position your welding in.If your welding vertical up, you dont have to have your fill passes flush, in fact, you can have your fill passes way under the top of the plate and still weave in a heavy cap pass that will look very nice.horizontal and overhead you want your fill passes flush or just under before capping (I do anyway), it makes is easier to put in a nice stringered cap.Last edited by snoeproe; 07-06-2013 at 07:20 PM.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
