Miller 200 AEAD worth?

Old guy here in town wants to sell me his 200 aead says he thinks he can get 150 out of It for scrap. He says it runs good but needs a batt were going to try and jump start it tomorrow also the 110 output is not working but it welds fine according to him will know more tomorrow.   Are these units any good and what would a rough idea of its wort be?. Its serial number dates it to 78 and you have to change your settings by moving the tap.ThanksSammy
Reply:I'd be ripping my wallet through my pants for $150.I paid $250 for mine, and that was for one that was losing over a quart of oil an hour (turned out to be an easy fix), but admittedly the generator worked fine.  In the condition mine was in, the price was still a steal.
Reply:He hasn't gave a price yet just said he can get $150 out if it for scrap will see what he says tonight.As to the generator I don't think there could be much to it, he says the AC side for welding works so I would guess it is something simple since it is producing AC.
Reply:Maybe, maybe not.  I believe there are a separate set of brushes for the generator.
Reply:On those the generator and welding windings are completely separate so it can be hard to tell. However depending on the age there's several things that need to happen before the power outlets work. The older models had to have a switch thrown. On the newer models there's a control module that won't allow the generator to kick in unless the proper rpm is reached. Thus it could be as simple and the idle speed being off, one of two relays, the module (actually the part I've seen go out the most), a toggle switch, or any of many other things.   Keep in mind that this welder generates at idle not at welding speed except for the small outlet for grinding while welding. Reply:Ok. Old enough that it's simply a switch. The throttle switch controls both the engine speed and power generation. Could be the switch, brush, bad connection, bad wiring, or several other things. Have to do some checking to figure it out. I'd probably start at the switch testing it myself.   Here's the owners manual for it with schematics. Reply:Thanks for the help Irish went ahead and bought it for 200 bucks. Put a battery in it primed the carb and she took off welds but no genny. Pulled the side covers off cleaned out the mouse nest and replaced a broken off spade and now the genny works. Thanks again Sammy
Reply:DAMN!  That's one amazing deal.Under the side cover, there should be a sticker that explains how to switch it between a 120V only and 120/240V generating setup.The square power outlet to be used at welding speed is only for tools that can run on DC BTW.
