Money Tree.......

My youngest son is getting married in October and he asked me if I could make him a "Steam-punk" money tree. So I figure that I can do 1" square tube down to 1/2" or maybe even 1/4", with 1/4" plate for a base. Traditionally made from sticks with ribbons or some kind of clip to hold the money for the newlyweds. Steam-punk is a blending of Victorian and industrial/machine stuff like gears, watches, cogs, brass, copper, steel, like a top hat with vintage welding goggles on top.....anything mechanical and old.So I will be getting the steel on Monday and start my "build". It will be about as tall as a table lamp and I will use binder clips to hold the money...........should be fun. Reply:Make sure you put it far from the exit door to protect it’s cargo the news has reports of dirt bags going to wedding just to steal. Best of luck to your son on the start of his new life.

Reply:Check a recycle center. You may find what you need rusting away .Weld up a steel box with a slot in it for the ''BIG BUCKS ''. Then tell the kids you'll cut it open on their first anniversary.

Reply:Desert scout, I use muratic acid applied w a disposable paint brush till it completely dries. Thes rinse with water,let dry then spray w hydrogen peroxide in a squirt bottle as an oxidizer,,,, instant old comes out very nice, the true rust rubs off easily though, so clear coat  or I like to use toung oil with a buffing to polish. Good luck. Btw what part of high desert? Grew up in Ridgecrest, grand parents lived in 29 palms.
