Anybody know easy way to do? Anybody use CV joint grease in gearboxes?
Reply:I'm sure there's a special grease. A short while back, I checked several of mine and it was all different colors. Mine had enough grease, but it was just slung out to the edges. I just re-distributed it back on the gear teeth. It probably slung back off the first time I used it. Have not checked any more.It needs a high temp grease, I'm sure. I was thinking about either disk brake wheel bearing grease or the Mystik high temp grease in a tube.
Reply:I use the stuff that is used in cv's in race cars. I think it is a swepco product, swepco 102, just looked. Had some left over, I use this stuff for everything, wheel bearings, gears. I have no noticeable wear on my stuff for years.RegardsDave
Reply:I've used cv joint grease in mine and had no problems in my opinion any grease is better then running it dry
Reply:It's probably not the best or proper thing, but I spray AeroKroil (orange can) in my DeWalt grinder's,die grinders pretty much all my hand tools. Seems to keep em going good for me. I know I didn't answer your question, just tell in ya what I do on my personal tools
Reply:Seems the cv grease is thin enough that it'd get back onto surface it gets slung off of. I was hoping maybe somebody'd came up with an easy way to oil the bearings. Gotta take the pinion off motor or ring gear/shaft out to do it and neither is easy. Was thinking on heating up synthetic oil with ring gear/shaft immersed but the motor bearings are another story plus don't know if they're sealed.
Reply:Dwayne, this has been discussed here: http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...ewalt-teardownI am now a believer that the brushes and motor are usually the first thing to go, not the gears.I really have no idea what I am doing. Two Shop Cats (not Bobcats...real cats)Miller DialArc 250 AC/DCScratch-Start TIG SetupMIG 175Plasma CutterO/A
Reply:First off you don't have to take any gears off to open the case on any grinder I've ever seen. I did a tear down of the Metabo that went out on me the other day. I was surprised to find the winding so well potted on such a cheap grinder. They where better protected than on the higher dollar ones I've taken apart in the past. It turns out that the bearing by the pinion went out is what caused the failure. If it had been caught and not run as long it would of been easily fixable. But my help didn't notice and ran it till the smoke came out.Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm
Reply:I put a grease zerk on one of mine. You can hit it with a few pumps from the grease gun. If you get it too full, it'll blow a little grease out the first time you run it. Fill it up. Run it a few seconds. Reply:Seems like moly grease would be good, because even if most of the grease slung off the gears, you'd still have a "plating" of moly disulfide which has some lubricating qualities. |
