After reading all winter the posts on buy this or buy that. I was bored Friday night and found an older Millermatic 200 Mig on Craigslist for $750. Last one I saw was for $1500 about 4 months ago.It can be tested at owners site so no worries there! I've thought about it all weekend and decided I must be fairly serious but wanted to ask, "What do you guys think? Should I buy it?"Its a loaded question, but what is typical going rate in your geographic areas?

Reply:That is a great machine. I love mine and only issue is replacing the terminal lugs about 10 years ago, and I put on a new torch after about 30 years. Reply:If I was in the market for a good 230v cabinet mig, a MM 200 would be high on my list. They are very nice machines..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I use a Millermatic 200 and it seems to work very well. I havent used that many other MIG Welders though. It can weld metal as thin as 20 Gauge Mild and I dont think I have ever maxed out on thickness. I have tacked (closer to small welds) bolts onto my 3/4" work bench and they hold.
Reply:A very good machine. I have one from the 80s, and it was the machine I learned on, belonged to my neighbor growing up. He used it professionally until I bought 5 or 6 years ago and I used it in my fab shop. I put on a new gun and replaced the capacitor bank. Also had to pull apart the selector switch and clean all the terminals as well as the contactor points. Fairly cheap machines to keep running and welds very well. That is a good price as well.
Reply:They are Awsome I got mine for 200 bucks Christmas Eve couple years ago. Guy needed money for his kids presents and posted it on Craig's list I happend to be on there at the right time. We met in Walmart parking lot hopeing it would work when I got home. One things for sure it was a pain getin it from his lowerd s10 into my jacked up silverado. I've made my money back and about 5,000 bucks more. Had to put new gun on it since I've owned it but was well worth the money.
Reply:I saw that one too. I did save it incase I ran across a little extra $$ but now the wife wants a new car!! Good luck if you get it!
Reply:Excellent welder. I've got one and the place I worked has 4, they out lasted me. They're still on the job since 1988 and I've retired.Doug Millermatic 200 Lincoln AC-225 Syncrowave 250
Reply:My ESAB Migmaster 250 and the MM 200 basically cover about the same output power(voltage and amperage) range, My ESAB gives me 22 tap selections to choose from to cover the 25 -280 amps that the unit is capable of outputting. To cover roughly the same amperage range the MM 200 only offers 11 tap selection. I've never ran a MM 200, but with so few tap selections it sure seems like there are going to be some definite holes in the MM 200 out put where you wish you had a tap selection between two existing taps.Last edited by Dan; 02-10-2015 at 10:19 AM.ESAB Migmaster 250 Hobart Ironman 230Multimatic 215TWECO Fabricator 181i & 211iHH125EZ - nice little fluxcore only unitMaxstar 150 STH - very nice |
