Got bored tonight, despite being hotter than satans butthole outside, Built a new bumper for my beater/woods warrior. These pics go in order, from what I think is worst to best.Hobart 210mvp, 75/25mix, .030 on junk 1x1 and 2x3 1/8" angle. This one looks like I started slow and picked up speed, traveling in circlesThe next two I think are my best ones, I was going by the chart in the door on the first 3 pics, then I bumped it up a notch on voltage and backed the wire speed down a tad: This one I just pushed, no motion to it, It's hard for me to get in corners like that.Me playing filling in a 1/2" wide 1/8" deep gap.And the almost finished bumper, I'm just going to knock all the paint off and let nature paint it for me, after all it is just a beater, got $40 in the whole bike.
Reply:The 4th from the bottom looks the best to me.I hate mig...but for almost all these shots i wouldnt use a normal stringer. They would all be a weave. Still not bad though.
Reply:They kinda all look cold to me, except for your one non weave or motion one.  That looks the best. I don't think it's coming apart anyhoo.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
Reply:It really look cool for me. I have tried the similar kind of stuff but this is better then mine
Reply:The welds don't look bad to me. The bumper? That is another story.....
Reply:Not too horrible but I'd practice your positioning and movement and try to stay a little more consistent

Reply:This is hard to do when you are learning but it really helps to change your torch angle as you weld. I would start out on the left side with the torch lined up like you were going to do a spot weld right into that corner so the end of the torch would be at say the 10:00 position or as close as possible to it looking at it as in the pic. Pull the trigger and watch that corner fill in nice and hot as you rotate the gun around to your normal pull angle and then maintain your pull across the whole plate. If you do it right it will look much more tied in on the left corner. Also pull further to the right to fill in that crack that you see in pics 1, 2 and 3. On 4 you got it far enough but it still falls off there. As you are pulling across keep your movement steady till you get to the end where it was in pic 4 and then stop travel but keep that trigger pulled till you fill in that whole corner with a fillet the same size as the rest of it.Lincoln precision TIG 275Millermatic 140 MIG
Reply:Ran some more beads on some scrap 2" 3/16, using the chart voltage, and playing with the ws. Top one was recommended WS settings, and it looked a little tall, so I dropped it down a little, looks it's digging in halfway. There's a couple I didn't make all the way across, I couldn't see the edge, and I was starting to get a cramp, I don't have a table yet, doing it on the floor. The bottom two.. well, sucks. I was trying pushing going from right to left.
Reply:And another one. 3/16" recommended settings. What's with all the soot and spatter? I haven't mig welded for long, and ever since I started, they've all been like this, I thought it was cleaner..?

Reply:It was clean. Almost mirror like. If cleaned it anymore it would have started taking metal off.
Reply:Ok, got a couple more for you... still 3/16" CLEANED. Up one tap on the voltage, and up a little on wfs.push, L to RPull R to LTried .023 since my drive roll finally came in..Door settings, Push R to LPull L to RLap, pull R to LTo me, the .023 Feels better, than the .030, It has a slightly more controllable puddle for me and kinda seems to flow into the steel a little better than the .030. I'll Probably stick with that until I have to weld on 1/4" or thicker. Here's one from the other night, .030, push R to L, It was my best one yet, til about halfway through, then I realized that I forgot to put on my cap, don't ask how I remembered. I tried to pick up mid weld after stopping, didn't do that great.. Last edited by jsinar; 07-25-2013 at 10:53 PM.
Reply:This is the last one from my previous post, It was in a vise, with all my weight on a cheater bar to bend it, I think it's a decent weld..I'll beat one with a hammer soon as I can find some plate to build my table and have something to tack it to.
