I picked up an Evolution 9" circular metal saw for a steal, and it even came with five blades (four are still in the Evolution blister packs).  Honestly, I've never really considered one, but couldn't pass on the deal.Anyway, anyone actually using one of these or another type?  How well do they cut on 1/4" mild steel, and have you run in to any issues with your saw?  Thanks!
Reply:I have one from nothern tool.  It is great for those rare times I need it.  Great for trimming.  I make sure the blades only extends through the material enough to make the cut.If I used one more often, then I would purchase a better quality saw.
Reply:I have one and have used it to cut 1/2" plate, cut out a small table top and it made a nice cut, just have to take your time and all is wellJon
Reply:Yes, but I started with a  used evolution 9" then went to a Milwaukee 14" and  then had to get another 9" evoultion, then I got a great deal on a 7" evolution. It's a disease, I think.  Anyway,  yes, It's one of my favorite tools.
Reply:I use one a lot
Reply:i have one and it should be fine for 1/4" steel.i had trouble with 3/8" 316 stainless, but i think that the material was too much for the saw.1/4" and less sould be fine.I wish mine had a lever so you could hold the blade guard up during a cut....like a skillsaw wormdrive.im using a friends 14" chop milwalkee for 1/4" alum (tungsten blade type) and it works great...clean and quick.....have to put one on my list.G
Reply:We've got a SteelMax 9" ( http://tinyurl.com/lka567 ) at work and it's a fairly good saw with a couple of exceptions. The shaft that the blade fits on, the end of the shaft has two flats machined on it to mate up with two flats on the blade clamp washer. The flats aren't deep enough  so you have to make sure the washer is tight, if you don't the washer will spin ever so slightly and make the bolt a b**ch to loosen. The chip catcher is a pia also.As Gord had said, not having something to hold the guard up is a pain. At anything over a30 deg or so entrance  angle to the plate, the guard doesn't retract. Making a plunge cut is hard also. I end up sticking a piece of masking tape on the guard to hold it up, once I'm into the cut I tear it off so i don't have to worry about the blade being exposed. There are different blades for s/s, alum and steel.
Reply:You have a great saw , i just finished a pipeline project where i used mine a lot . I was cutting 14 " sch. 40 pipe into two halves to wrap a existing pipeline and seal weld back together, work real well. Seems like Slugger b lades hold up best. The saw can get addictive.
Reply:i had an evolution 9" it did not last 2 months.now have 8" milaukee lasted for  1 year
Reply:I just saw circular saws in my norhtern tool catolog.  had no idea these even existed for metal
