Just bought myself a new welder (Thermal Arc 211i) and that means that it needs a new home base. I a real basic shape, that incorporates everything that i need to fully run a 3 in 1 machine.  It has a dual bottle area in the back, full size draw underneath for all consumables and tig pedal, casters wheels so it can move, vented plate for underneath welder, platform on top for extra space and to keep the welder safely enclosed.here are some photos, as the build goes on...

Reply:I'll be heading over to harbor freight later today to pick up some casters, then I just need to finish rigging up my draw, and weld on the handles. I got the chains set up in the back late last night."everyday is a school day"

I'm really enjoying mine too, I agree with you it is really smooth arc on stick and mig too.I might have to build myself a new cart too, the little HF cart is too cramped. Looking forward to seeing casters on yoursAC thunderbolt 22542i longevity PlasmaThermal Arc 211i
Reply:I got my 211i 3 weeks ago and LOVE it.  So true..it welds smooth.  Maybe Im doing something retarded with my old HH140 but doesnt compare when talking smoothness os wire feed and weld finish. Attached Images
Reply:Nicer cart than the one I made out of a wee shopping cart. As far as TA performance I'm still on the fence, the 186 Tig is not especially smooth, and the MIG guy at work would rather use the 20 yr old ESAB than the new 252i, just sayin'.SqWave 200Millermatic 190Airco 200 ACHypertherm PM45Boice-Crane Band SawVictor O/A

Reply:Finally got some wheels welded on today after school. I'm a student so my entire life right now is one huge budget! I got two casters for free & I bought two swivels for the front from harbor freight with a 25% off coupon.   I also added some hooks on the side so that I can reel up my lines when I'm done welding. Next thing I need to do is fab up a small draw for underneath. Attached ImagesLast edited by Tahoe_weld; 11-05-2013 at 08:39 PM."everyday is a school day"

Reply:Originally Posted by MoonshineMetalsNo offense, but how long have you been welding to give a fair comparison?   Walk into any professional fab shop or job site and you'll see 95% of the time ONLY  "red or blue" being used.   Driving down the highways, I ONLY see "red or blue" on the back of professionals' vehicles.  Once in a blue moon, I'll see "tan" (aka: poor man's Miller).  Just say'n.
Reply:Originally Posted by brucerHave you ever owned or operated a Thermal Arc machine?  If you havent you might not need to be saying anything as you dont know either..  I have owned a Thermal Arc tig welder for 6 yrs, I also sold my Lincoln 180c which I owned for the same length of time.. I sold my TA185 ac/dc,which will rival anything red or blue in the same class and is actually better if you ask me, and bought a 211i a few months ago, and recently bought a Thermal Dynamics cutmaster52....  I also owned a miller 252 about 10yrs ago. The Lincoln 180c was not that good a machine, the only good thing about it was the feed mechanism yet I never really liked the machine itself, I tried several different brands of wire still the same stiff feeling arc, to this day I think something might have been wrong with it, plus it was made in Mexico, so Lincoln built is means nothing to me anymore.. The miller 252 was a nice machine, caddillac of its class and an Industrial rated machine and the price reflected it.  My Thermal Arc 211i runs much like the miller 252 did, a nice soft arc, it will almost weld by itself, the thermal arc 211i is also the most versatile machine I've ever owned period.  It also comes with a nice Tweco gun and electrode holder and a Victor regulator.. It's hard to beat a dual voltage, mig/dc lift-tig/stick and spoolgun machine for a versatile home shop/light fab machine such as the Thermal Arc 211i..  Sure the 211i is not a machine you will see out in the field or on the back of a truck, how many Miller 211's or 212 do you see running up and down the road... Your talking of two totally different class machines when you compare a light industrial unit to a heavy duty industrial unit... I will bet you money the 211i will run with the miller211 and miller212, which are in the same class... The 211i will run circles around the lincoln 180c as it should because the TA is a higher rated machine and Lincoln doesnt even offer a 210amp class machine.. I've mig welded for 20ish years, although not a professional welder, yet I do weld and perform light fab work on the job, just tool&die work and fixture work from time to time. Also, there are several people on this forum that have outfitted their entire shops with these thermal arc 3in1 machines and they love them.. Just say'n

Reply:Originally Posted by Tahoe_weldThat is the best way to describe TA. I'm a student so the price/comparability made the TA right for me, once I have a the money I will buy a blue or red machine.
