I have an older Pro Tech chopsaw mom got me about 10 years ago for my birthday.     She knew I wanted a Dewalt but the salesman told her it was a lower cost rig made by Dewalt.     Its been a good saw its always cut 1/4 inch wall tubing a little crooked but I could accept it as it was kinda thick.      But Ive recently had trouble with it wanting to cut ut of square in the verticle axis.       Ive rn an indicatoe on the shaft and its all true bearings still good and the frame is square.   I always set my 90 and 45 with a square because I dont trust the numbers but its still a pita  when you have to use the grinder to final square it.      I use dewalt blades but Ive has some doubt with them the last few years youll cut and then they kinda  glaze over.  I dont crown my saw either.         Iwas wondering if any of yall used a certain brand blade over another.      Im still pleased with the service of the saw. Ive left it out in the elements and used it in all types of weather.  It was even  flooded when the the barge I was working on sank in the Tennessee river.  It my be time to up grade to a Makita or Milwaulkee.
Reply:Taylor,I have used several different brands of abrasive cut off saws. They all act the same. You can unknowningly influence the blade by the way you lower the motor and wheel. It doesn't take much side force to flex the wheel. Try cutting SLOW, let the blade do the work and be sure to input light pressure in a straight down direction.I usually cut fast and quick, knowing I will go back and trim up with a flap or grind disc. I add about a wheel thickness for this. I can't afford a cold cut off saw. I would think these would be more true cutting. Does anybody know?Miller Syncrowave 200
Reply:Try using a thicker 1/8" blade, they don't deflect as much as the thinner ones.   Also, don't start a cut too close to the edge, as the blade will deflect and try to follow the path of least resistance.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:I've had better luck with Forney cutoff wheels on mine, they seem to last a little longer and cut slightly easier which gives a straighter cut.HH 187Miller Bluestar1EAHP AlphaTig 200X
Reply:DeWalt blades are awful.  On my 4.5" angle grinder, I burned through four brand new DeWalt cutoff wheels that I happened to have, cutting a number of flanges off of a beam (doing a favor for a friend).  I got less than halfway through the job, by the time there was nothing left of those discs.  I then tried a metabo disc (that I got for less $$, from the LWS), and finished the job on the first disc (with a bit of disc left to spare after all that). The bad cutoff wheels glaze on the cutting surface, and get rough on the sides (DeWalt's do this, as does the chinese stuff).  The good cutting discs glaze on the sides, and remain rough on the edge (metabo, norton . . .)
Reply:There isn't a chop saw on the planet that cuts absolutely true.  Probably not in the galaxy eitherAs all have said, there's some deflection.  The cutoff wheel is flexibleMakita makes very good wheels.  Cut very smooth, but wear a little faster.  I feel they put less stress on the machine because of the smooth cut.  You'll notice that Makita wheels don't have the chord reinforcement.  They're solid abrasive.  It makes for a chatter free cut.  Fairly inexpensive if ordered by the box from Amazon.Oh yeah, don't breath the dust from a chopsaw, or a grinder.  You're inhaling massive quantities of abrasives.  Just figure what that's doin' to your lungs  If you can taste the dust, you're inhaling it.Take care, and happy cutting"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:If I want a true cut I put a 120 tooth carbide 12in saw blade in my 14 in Dewalt chop saw.  So far the carbide blade works very well and has lasted for about 30 cuts in 1/8 x 1 steal angle iron.keith The older the boys, the more expensive the TOYS!!Previous owned;Linde 300 Amp welderMiller Gas drv welder, Tumbstone,Dayton Miller ac to dc converter,High frequency unitLongevity LS60PCurrrently owned;Longevity WeldAll 200PI
Reply:As said, all chop saws flex a little.  I've found that when cutting, if you apply pressure, release, then apply pressure, and repeat untill the cut is done.  The wheels don't glaze over and seem to cut straighter than just making the cut all at once.  My chop saw is all worn out and I can still get it to cut straight when needed.  The pivot bushings can wear and cause you trouble also.My name's not Jim....

Reply:Ill try to find some thicker wheels.  When I was 16 I worked a summer in a production shop with a 24 inch cut off saw.   You could stack all sorts of tubing in it and it cut straight I got a chance to buy it now . If its cheap enough Im bringin it home.    For my thicker stock Im now using an antique and slow Keeler Power hacksaw.   Its just a bear to change angle on.

Reply:its 240 3 phase I got that at my shop.   3 Phase is cheaper for me to run and i can get alot of machinery cheaper.  I cant remeber the name of the saw I rember it would cut a 45 on4 pieces 4x4 X1/4 inch tubing. It was real accurate.     Im still glad I learned more about the blade types because Ill still need to one saw on the truck.
