I just purchased s Simadre CT520D.  I know every ones humor is different but the manual is not funny even in dry humor.  As a inst tech I can usually figure things out but I'm afraid to hook this up and smoke it.  The power cord is pretty simple.  It will detect 110/220V and make the necessary adjustments.  There is a mounting bracket on the back but not a gauge that should go with it that I suspect is for the air.  Several times I've been warned about dry air for the Plasma cutter.  I don't know of any single dryer that is not too expensive that will work.  I hope to make a tube and fill it with desiccant and reuse it.  The pressure for the air is 60/70 PSI.  I hate to have to remove the TIG to use the Plasma each time but that appears the case.  The problem I've having is that there is a red plastic hose coming out the back.  Is this for the air?  Poor design if so.   The Gas Inlet I would think would be for the AR only but the manual didn't give a pressure or flow.  As for consumables, there are several but once they are gone where do  you get more?  It would be nice to purchase American but since I piddle a lot I cannot afford put big dollars into it.  If it smokes then I will adjust, learn my lesson and do without.  Anyone who knows the proper connections in back please let me know or post a picture.  I have the pin out if anyone knows how to make a foot peddle.  If I knew what the pot was I could do it.Pin 3 & 7 are not used.  Pins 1 & 2 are for a limit switch which would be to turn on the air or Ar.  Pins 4,5,&6 go to the pot with pin 5 going to the center.  I'm not sure from the pic what the rest are doing.  I can't figure out how to post a copy of the pin out.  If someone will let me know I will be glad to do it, it is larger than 150 KB. Thanks Warrenyou can send me an email and I will send you the pin out
Reply:Nothing against you or your machine, but wow, did you look at their warranty???For the CT520D, if you have a problem with it, that you have to send back for warranty it is $300.00!!!That really took me by surprise. I hope it works out well for you though.I tried to find a manual online that I could look at, but found none available.

I can relate to your frustration.  I bought that same unit 18 months ago, plugged it in, and it made a bang and smoked.  The seller replaced it for the cost of return shipping.I have that same drier on another plasma cutter and it works fine so no need to replace. That hose coming out the back is for either air or argon depending on what you have plugged in.  I set my system up with air hose connections so I can either plug my compressor into the air drier or the argon for TIG directly into the back without having to unclamp anything.  Seems to work fine.Consumables are very easy to  find on Ebay.  Just look for Cut40/50 items.  They all seem to be identical. It is a real quandary.   I would love to buy American, too, but I just can't justify the price for something that I won't use all that often.  So far as reliability and longevity are concerned, one can buy two or three units for the price of one American unit and some of the warranties coming out now look pretty good too.  I have gone the Used American" route as well but that is a crap shoot.  There is a good chance you are buying someone else's problem.  My rate at getting a dog is at 50%
Reply:IF you can send me a pic of you machine connected at the back it would help.  I will send you the pin out for the foot peddle.  I think I can build one.  The red plastic tube and the brass "gas inlet" are throwing me for a loop.  I figure the brass has to be for Ar and the red tube???   If I can't figure it out I will take it apart.  As for warranty,  ya takes ya chances.  I'll just do with out if it blows,  but from some of the forums I thought this one was the best.  They are like computers, in a year this will be obsolete and overpriced.  I paid $405 + $30 shipping.  If the stick and the tig works I'll be fine.  In the meantime, I'm keeping my stick welder and my [email protected]  The 150 KB limit is too small to post a pic or diagram.

Reply:Well I finally got power on the Simadre tonight.  I tried a 6011 & 6013 and was impress with the way they both worked.  Before I could use the TIG I had to buy a nut for the Argon since the one they sent was metric but it was only $4.  The piece I was playing with was very rusty so I had a little difficulty at first.  I didn't have time to try the plasma cutter.  I don't like having to change the TIG cable  and Plasma cable but I don't expect to use the cutter that much.  So far I"m happy with the purchase.  I still have my old stick welder that I will keep for awhile but for the money I wouldn't have been able to buy a ground lead on any of the major brands and since I don't use it for production it will do nicely.  Of course it may die tomorrow and if so, they ain't getting no cherry.    I still give it a thumbs up.
