I saw a really small grinder at Horrible Fright. It looks like a miniature grinder. Would this be suitable as a dedicated tungsten grinder? Sure would save a lot of space!

Reply:Why do so many people here think you need a dedicated grinder for tungsten? What are y'all welding on, the space shuttle?
Reply:I use my bench grinder for everything plus wood, plastic, and rubber and never ever had a contaminated tung problem because of the grinder.
Reply:3 inch should work o.k. but a 6 inch probably offers better quality and you can find them at a good price. Nice to have a dedicated wheel. Contamination may not be a concern to everyone but it's nice to have a stone dialed in the way you like it. Alternating between the 3 grooves evens out the stone face. Attached Images

Reply:Any time I use a bench grinder I use the side of the wheel.

Reply:I bought that grinder for tungsten. It's low amp draw, so it wouldn't be good for much else, but I'm happy with mine.I have to set everything up and tear everything down anytime I weld, so I like the fact that I can drop 2 bolts through the back of it to keep it from walking away on me as I use it, the just pull it up through my table, wrap the cord around it and put it one of my toolboxes. That little measure of convenience was kind of a big plus for me, if you've got a dedicated work space / sizeable shop I'd go for a 6 inch in a heartbeat.BTW, when I say low amp draw, I mean this thing wouldn't do much BESIDES grind tungsten, so don't have any illusions about its capabilities. If you fight long enough, you will win. The problem is it costs too damned much.- Lee Cheng

Reply:I did that also. Then get the diamond wheels for it and you have a whole $20.00 bucks in a grinder[IMG][/IMG]From the desk of Kevin CaronTrying to be the best me I can!www.kevincaron.comAHP Alpha Tig 200x MillerMatic 251Miller Syncrowave 200
Reply:Thanks for the idea Kevin. Where did you get the diamond wheel? Does HF sell it? Oh yea, love your work.
Reply:Yes, they sell the diamond wheels . On the otherside of the store on the wall with the other grinding wheels. You just have to drill out the holes to fit the shaft. And thank you.Last edited by kevinacaron; 08-25-2013 at 11:06 AM.From the desk of Kevin CaronTrying to be the best me I can!www.kevincaron.comAHP Alpha Tig 200x MillerMatic 251Miller Syncrowave 200 |
