Recently changed my regulator on the mig from regular two stage cheapi thatCame with it . To a nice flowmeter . Made by smith ,Using tri mix at about 15 psi? Or whatever that measurement isWith the flowmeter seems to be using more gas faster It is possible I am imagining this and just welding more . But seems like it's going fasterI have a weird suspicion. That maybe it's leaking from the inside of the solenoid In the machine Z maybe from over tightening the gas line to itAnyone ever have this happen. Thoughts ?Thanks
Reply:Two stage stuff tends not to be so cheap..PSI is pressure in the tank, CFH or L/H is your working pressure. When you start up, that'll read higher before you get on the trigger than when you're on it, so light everything up, hit the trigger and turn the thumbscrew to get your actual working pressure. What it reads when you're off the trigger means nothing.Changing flowmeters doesn't have a lot to do with the internal solenoid of your welder. What machine is itWhy tri gasWhat are you welding with itDid you recently service the internals of the machine RE your over tightening remarkMore info and someone might be able to tell you what's upIf you fight long enough, you will win. The problem is it costs too damned much.- Lee Cheng
Reply:CFH is not a pressure reading it is the flow (Cubic Feet per Hour) rate of the gas. The scale needs to be calibrated for the gas you are using. It should be 0 until you pull the trigger. It will have a higher in rush rate  then will drop in a few seconds. If you have any post flow it will run for a few seconds after you release the trigger.

Reply:On a flow meter it should read 0, unless there is a leak, until you pull the trigger. On a flow gauge you will see what it is set at with no flow. A flow meter is usually a tube with a ball inside of it, a flow gauge will have a round gauge. A flow meter is normally much more accurate then a flow gauge. The OP stated he installed a flow meter.
