Allen key third hand

Hi,just starting to weld and as one of my first projects ,i put together a third hand,trying to get the hand on my cheap tig welder so sorry about the welds...Just used 3 old allen keys ,the weight was part of an old machine and the copper tip... Attached Images

Reply:Hey pretty cool! I would prefer to taper the copper to a point tho for the thin stuff. If you had to use a slight angle the flat would probably slide right off. Looks good tho, and I hope you didn't waste good allen keys.  I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys

Reply:Southern, nice job!  I like that idea to use those Allen keys for small projects and a delicate touch.  For larger projects, I made this "third finger" out of rebar,  a long time ago.....Then I welded a square piece of 1/4" plate on top to add as a weight platform.  There have been times when I needed a third finger with some force on a heavy piece of steel, until I could get it tac'd up.   This 1/4" piece was hit quickly with several stringers of 7014.  This last picture just shows a quick example of using some heavier piece or pieces of scrap metal as added weight, when necessary.   I finally electroplated the third finger with zinc, just to keep the rust off of it.Lincoln Power Mig 216Lincoln AC/DC-225/125Miller  625 X-Treme PlasmaMiller 211 Forney 95FI-A 301HF 91110Victor Journeyman O/PMilwaukee DaytonMakita  Baileigh NRA Life Member
