I have been away from using tanks for a while.  My tanks are almost empty but I have a couple of tanks my BIL gave me that are really old.  They are out of certification but both the acetylene and oxygen have fuel left and I am wondering if they are safe to use.  the Acetylene take still has about 130PSI in it,  I have not checked the O2 tank but it appears to be newer, (relative term) than the acetylene tank.  The regulator seems to work but I don't know if it is safe.  It was stored with the regulator screw all the way out, and I was taught that that was the right way to do it.  Any input?  Safe or take it in and swap even though it still has a fair amount of gas.  The regulator I have for my tanks won't fit on this one.  It appears to have a different connection.  Thanks in advance for any replies!Last edited by rjgogo; 02-22-2015 at 11:29 PM.
Reply:The regulator in picture looks rough to me. I would get a price on having them rebuilt to know they are safe. There has been post on regulator rebuilding service. As for the tanks, I had a acetylene 135  CF size tank that was 15 years old and I used it up and then took it in for a exchange. I paid the re certification fee and got a current one. It was around $60.00.
Reply:Try it see how it works. Use up the gas as it doesn't go bad.
Reply:I would not attempt to use regulators that have sat with the ports open.I'd have no issue with putting new regulators on an old bottle to use up the gas.My name's not Jim....
