I'm looking at a Weldking Cool Cut 30 plasma cutter.  Anybody have one or know if it's a good machine?  Thanks.
Reply:where are they made dont forgetyou get what you pay for
Reply:link?
Reply:http://www.weldking.com/invertercut30.aspx   It has a different trigger than a miller.  It clicks on and off.  Its $600.00 comes with everything, filter, extra consumables etc.
Reply:It appears very similar to the Chinese inverter plasma's that are offered under a variety of different names. If it is like the schematics and pictures in the manual....it uses FET's (field effect transistors) for power switching....older, less reliable technology than IGBT  (insulated gate bipolar transistor) type power supples. It appears to use a high frequency start torch...which is older technology as well. The torch is an import copy of an old (about 30 years!) Esab torch...the PT31.I'm sure it will cut metal....and it may be adequate for hobby use. My concern would be with warranty and service......and if it breaks after the warranty can you get it repaired or get parts? Also...for about $400 more you can buy a major US made brand.....from Hypertherm or Thermal Dynamics or Miller.Jim

Reply:Originally Posted by gerryyfI live in Canada (Alberta). Anyone out there know where you can get a decent price on a Miller or Thermal D? The usual welding stores want to knock you over the fence with their prices. Some of the US online stores will ship to Canada, but it is usually a hassle with duty, customs broker, etc. Thanks.
Reply:Sure looks like it does....it is hard to tell from their translations....much about the torch. Once again....you are taking a bit of a chance when you buy these units! May work fine for your needs.....for my money I would choose to spend a little more and get a product that I knew I could trust from a mnufacturer that I knew....not just a marketing company that puts labels on product and roughly translates the documentation.Jim
Reply:save your pocket change and get a brand name unit if you plan to do any serious work with it.Co-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.&  2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.

Reply:Thanks to all. I will give those two mail order places a go to see if they will ship to Canada. I think I am convinced now that I want to go with a brand name rather than a cheaper Chinese made cutter.
Reply:Well guys, none of the outlets you suggested will ship to Canada. I guess I will either have to buy local or make a quick friend in the lower 48.  Thanks again for all your advice.
