Although it has served me well for a year now, I've been on the prowl for a plasma cutter with a bit more cutting capacity than my reliable and faithful Hypertherm 350 for awhile.  Obviously any replacement would have to be a machine of proven quality and I looked at  a number of PM600s on eBay but they've been going for more than I cared to pay.Yesterday afternoon a friend from work called me on his way home to let me know he just found out someone he knows had a big plasma cutter for sale.  The owner was selling it because it was too big for what he wanted and had picked up a smaller one that was more what he needed.  After talking to the owner, my friend called to say he'd go check it out for me today as it wasn't very far from his house but about a 35 minute drive for me.Around noon he called me with the details.  A Thermal Dynamics PakMaster 100XL with three times the cutting capacity of the PM350.  A single phase / three phase multiple voltage unit complete with a leather sheathed torch cable, high capacity air filter and cart.  A stop off at the bank for five Benjamins and about 45 minutes later it was loaded and headed home.  Even better, I already have a buyer for the PM350 for what I have in it - my friend that found the 100XL!  He's been looking for a unit to cut sheet metal and thin plate well within the capabilities of the PM350 and as a result of him buying it I'll wind up with a 3X capacity upgrade for under $100.The 100XL (after removing it from its cart) complete with long (~40') sheathed torch cable, packages of electrodes and nozzles and high capacity air filter.After hooking up a temporary power cord (came without one) and a half dozen or so test cuts, the smoke escaped out of the torch handle and I figured I just found out why the PO was selling it.  Upon pulling the handle apart it was obvious the trigger switch had been replaced and the unit reassembled with one of the butt splice connectors pinched between the handle housing and power cable gas line fitting.  Over time the insulation was breached allowing the connector to short out on the power cable fitting.A new section of wire, a quick solder job and double heatshrink tubing insulation repair and everything was back in order.The dual air hose reel cart for the PM350 stays with me and will get modified to acommodate the longer 100XL and mounting of the cartridge air filter.I really don't like the cart the 100XL came with and will be letting it go with the PM350 to be used as a starting point for its new cart which my friend can modify to suit his needs/desire.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
