I have an aluminum sprocket cover that I am welding up for a friend. It has a few cracks that need welded up. Other than the normal stop drilling and very good cleaning (cast aluminum) should I weld the inside or outside first......anything else???

Reply:Bevel like heck, and weld the inside first. It burns out the oil more so the outside will be cleaner with less bubbling. I think because of spider cracking I would go with 4043.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:Welding inside first will also give you the opportunity to dial in your balance. I have welded some cast that you could weld just like a new piece of 6063 or any other clean pure metal. Other pieces of cast are very dirty or heavily contaminated and require a lot of cleaning both before welding and with the AC balance.Lincoln precision TIG 275Millermatic 140 MIG
