Reply:We have one at the votech I go to I've ran 6010 and 7018 with it. It is a lot different then actually welding at least I think it is. It is kinda cool to see your score all broke down after you make a weld tho. ranger 225
Reply:I remember (barely) when I was in class, I felt a lot of pressure to make the best bead I could every time, and it seemed too much a waste of time to experiment to see what would happen if I purposefully did things wrong.It seems this would give the student a risk free opportunity to violate best practices, so he could witness what happens while it is happening, and maybe be better able to react to it when welding.Not to replace the real thing, but sort of give a preview of what he will experience.Hobart Beta-Mig 2511972 Miller AEAD-200LEMiller 250 TwinNorthern Ind. Reply:It's a decent way to introduce someone who's never seen an arc to welding. As far as training new welders- there is no substitute for real blue light.
Reply:We have one at school. It is never used. My instructor says the school wasted 60kHF 98233 Stick/TigHF  95136 PlasmaEastwood TIG200Eastwood MIG250Damn, I cut it twice already and it's still too short!

Reply:You dont learn how the rod actually burns down or how striking an arc is. Yeah you can use it for travel speed but its not nearly the same as welding. It was a very glitchy machine and constantly broke down.
