Have it out of the box, thats it. I will set next to a 14 inch Sears bandsaw with bymetal 14 teeth on it. It's part of my conversion I'm doing to convert an 8 ft storage room, now 10' by 20' to a clean shop with heatpump (check my home projects/solar http://www.enichesoftware.com/index.htm ). The other half of shop is the other half of the garage where my truck is parked, thats the dirty shop. The shop is just big enough so when you walk to the other side, you don't forget what you went after. Don't want anymore work benches, have the clean shop with 20 ft plus of benches. So I'll store the bench drillpress for my son when he sells his house a gets room to build his shop, HOA stuff. Got a cross vice to move also. Don't know if it will work, but want to drill out my new press dye to 1 inch for the shop press ram. What would you suggest? The only way I can get it off is with a hammer. Like I said I might try to figure our how to fab a pipe bender attachment onto the shop press and the press dye will have to come on and off. VernLast edited by Vern2; 12-06-2009 at 10:04 PM.
Reply:Vern,Thanks for posting but you've got 10 topics in one paragraph and I can't understand you. Slow down. Fully describe your main topic. Save the rest for later or at least the next paragraph. For example, your picture is of the HF 38142 large bench-top drill press. By stand-up I thought you meant floor-standing or is this the one you are putting in storage for your son??Lincoln SA200, HH135, Lencospot, HF80 Inverter, Rockwell 11x35 lathe, HF drill mill, Kama 554 tractor w/ FEL & BH, Belarus 250AS, lot's of Chinese tools
Reply:Ran out of time to edit post. Put down a bunch of ideas, then the web site said I had no more time to edit. Computers %#@!1) sorry might have grabbed wrong picture. It is a full size standup.2) It's all in pieces, won't make sence to take pictures of pile of parts.3) Watch the commas. I change the sentence thought a little.4) Sorry I failed English a bunch of times. I bet you didn't find a misspelled word or very few. 5) I always got "As" in spelling. I had a stroke a couple years ago.6) I've got one good arm, one good leg and half a brain. 7) Can just walk, but not far. Here is my introduction... http://www.enichesoftware.com/eniche/intro.wmv8) I did start out with twise as much Brain as most people. Ha!9) Hope you can follow this post. I still have 10 topics for you. Don't want to start off on the wrong foot, that does happen to me.10) Brad I do thank you for your post on the 2 inch dye! There is a reply.VernLast edited by Vern2; 12-07-2009 at 12:14 PM.
Reply:Developer, head cook AND a chief bottle washer....what's left for the wife to do? lol
Reply:Drilling a 1" hole with that type of press is a stretch.I'm not saying it can't be done.Set the belts for the lowest speed attainable, and use a slow steady feed with lots of oil or soapy water. To prevent ripping the bit out of the chuck at the end of the hole, place a piece of steel under the part you are drilling.  It should be thick enough that you can fully drill the hole through the part and still be drilling in the sacraficial piece of steel underneath the part.  This prevents the drill from grabbing when it punches through the part.  You'll actually be drilling another 1/2 to 3/4" to make your intended hole.If you're enlarging an existing hole be prepared to use up a few bits.  The outer edge of the bit will grab as it drills.  Either dulls the bit, tears it out of the chuck, or tears chunks out of the cutting edge."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Vern,No worries, It's nice you're doing a lot with what you've got.One trick for using a big drill to slightly enlarge a hole is to put the drill bit in a vise (one of the flats flush with a jaw) and turn the part by hand or with a pipe wrench or big crescent wrench. Use a hand at the pivot point to balance your forces so you are applying pure torque to the part. It won't take many turns and you will have control of the process.I got a head from a drill press like the one you just got from a surplus place. It was a returned item. I used it to repair a unit I pulled out of a dumpster that had a broken quill casting. Anyhow the returned unit had a twist in the spindle spline where apparently someone was using a big bit with the belts nice and tight and it put a twist in it. Luckily that part on the original unit was salvageable. I'm now getting good use out of my $40 investment.  Lincoln SA200, HH135, Lencospot, HF80 Inverter, Rockwell 11x35 lathe, HF drill mill, Kama 554 tractor w/ FEL & BH, Belarus 250AS, lot's of Chinese tools

Then the new shop press with air over hyd, add on.Looking at a Passport. $1400 quoted by phoenix Welding. They didn't have one to look at. Reply:Just added a light to the drill press. Used the hot lead, instead of the switch leg. The light comes on when ever I want. VernLast edited by Vern2; 12-10-2009 at 11:04 AM.
Reply:If that's a brand new drill, whatever you do, make sure to clean the oil off of the Morse Taper arbor and the inside of the socket.  The arbor will spin otherwise.  Brake cleaner and paper towels work best.A clean arbor is a happy arbor.  LOL"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
