I spent the afternoon cooking a half of a Beef Brisket.I checked on it, and continued to weld a small Klondike sled.  The meat cooked for about 4 hours and turned out excellent!  I shared it with a friend.I thought that a few might enjoy my truck BBQ/ smoker that I built.  It fits into a 2" receiver that I welded into the truck body that I built.  (I built this bed in my driveway.)The BBQ is 10" X60 pipe, .375 wall with the end caps are another piece of pipe, split and welded into position.  Of course I had to use a #3 horse shoe for the handle.  Air flow is what controls the heat.  I wedge something into the crack, to keep the lid open.It does better than I could have ever expected.  I use it quite often.Let me know what you think.....-Rhyno Attached ImagesLast edited by Rhyno; 01-20-2010 at 12:25 AM.07 Fowler 200D65 RedFace04 Miller TB 302, 22hpMiller 12RCMiller HF 251-1Lincoln SP135HyperTherm PM 380and a few others... Reply:when it said 10" x 60 pipe, i eexpeceted 10" dia pipe 5 foot long. itlooks like a 10" long piecce of 60 " dia pipe that got heated and beated...great shape...
Reply:I thought they were called "Bed & Breakfast" I don't see any eggs. Nice job on the cooker and the bed. If I might ask, what is the purpose of the v-shaped trough in the bed just ahead of your cooker?
Reply:i thought more along the lines of 10" x sch 60 but according to wiki that would be .500 wall not .375. thats actually closer to sch 40 at .365. sure doesnt look to be 60" diameter to me unless there was a large piece cut out of it. OP, let us know!EDIT: oh yea cooker looks good. i like that idea with it mounting to the bed. you'll have all the guys near your jobsites drooling.and again: just looked it up a #3 horseshoe should be 5 7/8" wide at its widest so the cooker looks to be wider than 10". we'll just have to wait and find outLast edited by ranger_5_0; 01-18-2010 at 09:40 AM.

Reply:Originally Posted by RhynoSorry Fellas, I should have been a little clearer on my description.  The pipe is X60.  X60 describes the hardness.  I have welded many different  pipe styles (X40, X52, X60, X65, X70, X80).  Typically, the harder the pipe, the higher the pressure. The end caps are the same diameter as the main body.  I took a 10" long section and cut it in half.  Each half is an end cap.  I was trying to be an artist when I put this together. The overall length  is 16"The skills needed to do a "Header and Branch Test" were used on this.  The only metal that was "heated and beated" was the horse shoe.-Rhyno

Reply:Originally Posted by RhynoI finished up the Klondike sled.  It was a project for the Scouts.  The local pack came over and was included in every step of the build, from design, material figuring, measuring, cutting, layout, painting, etc.All of the boys got to weld, with me guiding their hand.  I felt that it was important that all of them had a part in the build. The sled is pulled by 6 or 8 Scouts, with one of them driving.  It is used in a team building competition.  They will pull it through a course, stopping at check points to do different things.  It is being used today and this week end.  When I get the other pics, I'll post them.-Rhyno
Reply:Good to see you helping out with the Scouts. Is one of your kids in or did you do this to just help them out?.No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Very cool projects. They both look really good. It always amazes me, the idea's that you guy's come up with for projects on this site. I guess that's why I keep coming back. This has got to be one of the best welding sites on the net. Keep the projects coming.Originally Posted by ChrisA7164Hi Rhyno  I know exactly what that is...been to many of them...great job with the sled...
Reply:that looks good!  what would you charge to make one for me? ... i just dont have access to pipe like that and slipping it into a receiver hitch is perfect!
Reply:Awesome projects! They look great and well made, they will be enjoyed and gets plenty of use. Great job!_________________________________--www.sawblade.com
Reply:Ryno your attempt to be "artistic" succeed wonderfully!  Really like the design!  Why do all barbees have to be round?  Thanks for breaking the rule.  Keep it up pipe welder, and hat is off for helping those scouts.  I hear they have a welding merit badge they can get now days, is that right.  Hey wouldn't it be interesting if every qualified and willing welder on this site set aside a given Saturday say six months from now and invited every local Scout troop to have "welding day".Might change the perception of some of the public that every welder is a junkie, beer guzzling, whore changing no good son-of a.....Some kind of Big Blue constant current welding machineAnother smaller yet, Blue machine (it's got wire in it)

Reply:dumb question on the barbecue. how do you measure the pattern for the horizontal piece? is that a standard (saddle?) ? and how did you fit the end caps? I owe someone a favor and they love to barbecue, that looks like a great design I would like to copy, EDIT never mind I just went back and reread the thread,my bad I missed it.Last edited by idacal; 12-13-2013 at 10:24 AM.Do not argue with an idiot.
