Working on a mobile industrial fire apparatus foam system refurb job and the 4" flanged suction strainer installed 14 years ago was equipped with an 1/8" perforation screen from the factory.  Some time after that it was learned the foam pump manufacturer recommends a 1/4" perforation screen for the application.So, today I made a new screen from a small sheet of 1/4" perforated SS (didn't measure it but guessing 16ga.).  TIG'd it up with the Syncrowave 180 SD using 1/16" 2% Thoriated, amps set to max using the peddle, argon set a little high at 12cfh and .035" 316 MIG wire for filler when needed.  Mostly tried to just wash the puddle from the top piece down to the bottom and wound up burning thru in a few places but I have far more holding than the 9 small spot welds on the original so I don't see it going anywhere.The remaining piece of material following cutting the section required for the new screen.  Positive displacement timed rotor foam pump is red device in the background.One of the two hose clamps used to hold the hand formed screen to the correct dimension over the male pilot end cap for welding.  You can see a couple of the burn thru spots.The tacks on the leading edge.The new screen compared to the original and ready for installation.Thanks for looking.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
