what happens to copper when copper coated electrode is used  ???? if copper has zero solubility in steel how it works as austenite stabilizer
Reply:My understanding was that the thin film of copper has two jobs:1. Prevent corrosion (rust) on the steel wire during storage2. Improve electrical conductivity during the weld processThe little copper that is left has floated out and is usually cleaned off before a perminant protective coating is applied.Be wary of The Numbers: Figures don't lie,. but liars can figure.Welders:2008 Lincoln 140 GMAW&FCAW2012 HF 165 'toy' GTAW&SMAW1970's Cobbled together O/A

Reply:This is a guess but thinking the copper it so thin and melts at a lower temp wouldn't most of it get flash vaporized as the arc melted the rod ?
Reply:Copper is used as an alloying element in steel, not just a coating."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder
