I got a few scrap pieces of 1 1/4'' x 1/4'' 6Al-4V titanium to play with. I decided to give it a shot being I have never welded titanium before. I did not have a purge box or trailing shield to use ( I understand one is very well recommended). I used plenty of aluminum as a heat sink. I didn't get any major purple colors, mainly straw color. Boy was it a pain to cut into coupons.1/4'' 6Al-4V titanium 3/32'' ERTi-1 fillerMaxstar 150 stl with pedal Set at max 150 amps#7 cup with gas lenseargon set at 30 cfh Lap weldOutside corner weldYa gotta spend money to make money!
Reply:LOL on the cutting part. Did you have to wear your welding hood like I did a few months ago due to the parks being so bright. Anyway that looks great Shane for your first shot, esp with no purge block or anything. Try and score some more free pieces bud, that's about $100 worth right there, if not more. Reply:The sparks were nice and bright. Unfortunately I didn't score these for free, but I did get (2) 1 1/4'' x1/4'' x 13'' long pieces for $25.00. I still had to pay to play.Ya gotta spend money to make money!

Reply:Nice! Next time, give the coupons a rinse and wipe with acetone, then a hard scrub with a new (and dedicated) stainless brush, then another rinse and wipe with acetone, and I bet a lot of that blue will go away. And you might be swirling in some air pushing 30 cfh through the 7 cup. Welds nice though, doesn't it? |
