Is it possible that I've gotten so comfortable with my 180 Lincoln that when I pick up a "new" more "sophisticated" gun in an inverter machine that I'm just not comfortable and my welds suffer? Sounds like it's probably self-answering but I never know till I ask.

Reply:98.5 % of my welding experience has been with engine drives. Never seen an inverter until retiring. First time I used one was a Dynasty. I was just floored at what control they have over the puddle.Best thing since chocolate ice cream! Reply:Yeah, Rog, I know the FFF rule all-too-well, all-too-personally!!! Thanks to you and the others for the responses. It just doesn't feel right, work the same or give me the same result as my trusty 180 that I learned and am learning with. Maybe I'm just old. I hate change!

He has a couple of sayings.If it has t!ts or wheels sooner or later you're gonna have trouble with it...Good thing they have two sets of lips, one to pi$$ with - one to moan with...Back to topic, yes welders have different personalities, the makers also have different ideas of how the power supply should work - you have to adapt.Good luck,Matt

Reply:Having pulled the thread into disarray I will come back and note that there has always been a " learning curve "  to transition between two machines .  No two machines will perform exactly alike even if the they are the same model .  When you pitch  " new technology " into the mix it just increases the differences between what you are used to and what you are working with now .  People are funny , and i am no exception , in the sense that once they " learn " a machine  even an easier or better machine  will tend to be hated until they become accustomed to it . Then by the time they become comfortable with the new old faithful some dammed fool brings them a  new and improved dingus  and the whole cycle starts over  LOL .
