How do i know if I'm using too much gas when I'm making a spot weld?  I'm spot welding 16 gauge for auto patch panels, and I'm having difficulty getting my settings correct.  I am a beginner.
Reply:On your door chart it should tell you what gas flow to use for your machine. But if not, set it around 25cfh, check it with the trigger pulled.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:Just resort to a little experimenting... try at 10, 15, 20, 25 cfh to see if it makes any difference.  I've not found a need to deviate from a standard setting of 15.
Reply:I"m gonna take some pics of my welds tomorrow.  THey look crappy and lots of blow through.  It's frustrating.  It looks like the wire speed is too slow.  To me, it looks like the heat burns up the wire before i can make a tack weld.  But then I turn down the heat, I just get a big blob of wire...  And when I turn up the gas to 20-25, it looks like a torch when I pull the trigger...  When I weld  with my lincoln 220 flux wire, it sounds like a bacon frying.  Does MIG with gas supposed to sound like bacon frying also???
Reply:Are you sure your gas is getting to the torch?
