Had some one call Friday at 4 and want this fixed never fails always happens with not so fun jobs. Lots of cracks to be ground out and filled in and replaceing a pin mount. Really need an air  compressor and an arc air on my truck.Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk Attached Images
Reply:friday afternoon and holiday's are guaranteed times for things to bust. of course it has to be bitter cold to boot. nice work. think you can get a compressor on your rig?i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla

Reply:Not sure where I could fit a compressor now, need to build a bed for that truck would really like to get a hold of a miller air pak or vantage air and have air and welder in one box Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk
Reply:Bobcat was on the trailer and I see you have a hitch on your truck.  I would have just dragged it to the shop and did it in some heat.
Reply:Maybe if you got rid of the tool box in the bed and got boxes that go on sides you free up some room in the bed And if you decided later to go flatbed side boxes work well on flat beds to. I think side boxes are easier to work out of. Only thing is my  gas powered T 30 compressor with a 30 gal. tank would add 500 lbs to your gvw.
Reply:I get those calls too! "Quick Repair"I tell my wife I'll be gone 3&1/2hrs automatically.Sure enough they usually take that amount of time!

Reply:Nicest office in town, not too much snow, clear sky and fresh air  That's the nature of our businesses, cold weather=brittle steel=frozen feet. Combine that with Murphy who usually shows up late friday during holydays .Good rescue man

Reply:work in that weather is always fun. nice job man. I tow a trailer with my equipment on it now, but im thinking about putting most things in my bed, only downside is I have a short bed. the TB is pretty small so I could turn it sideways up against the cabR.T. Reply:Don't think you could pay me enough to be a plumber. Have half a notion of finding a compressor and rigging it up to run off the 250. Love how it welds but it takes up so much space and weighs almost as much as an air pak. Think this spring I may build a welding bed for that truck. The bed is rotten any way.  Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk
Reply:I just take a engine driven wheel barrel compressor with me if I need to arc gouge. runs a k2000 arcair fine, only needs about 40psiR.T. Welding LLCOn Site ServiceColumbus, NJ
Reply:Originally Posted by 7A749I was working on a Bobcat Friday.Guys building a new cow barn finally broke it beyond use (it had been broken for I assume months before that)Neither of them could weld, so I offered to do it. They said it would be "fast". Yeah, right. Those jobs never are. Spent the better part of an hour outside in -10 deg cold using an old Lincoln Idealarc 250 building back up the broken area so I could attach a washer to the top of it to fit the pin for the bucket release back in the hole.Of course, no 3/32 rod, just 1/8. I ended up turning it down to a little over 50 amps & laid little passes one on top of another until there was enough metal to do a suitable repair on it. He just figured I could magically patch up metal less than 1/16 thick, riddles with wear holes. Would have used the TA & flux core wire, but I felt the arc force would have put me further behind the eight ball than just stick welding it.I'm sure this guy wanted you to just "tack it back together" You did a good job. I prolly would have used 6010 too if prep was an issue & it had to get done fast. Cap it with 7018, or have them bring it to the shop for a proper repair in the summertime.  Those repairs are always a lot of fun If you don't mind sharing, what are you getting for a repair call like this? I was getting paid by the farm so it wasn't an issue for me, but I told them if I was called to come & fix it, I would have been easily in the $200-300 for the job. Especially in that weather & circumstances. I prolly would have fabricated bushings for it & repaired both sides (the other one is good & ready to give up the ghost as well) had they have brought it to me tho.

Reply:looks good but I dont know if down hill would have been my first choice for heavy equipment.  I might have done 7018 uphill instead, but to each his own.

Reply:I agree on the 7018 the only big rods I had on hand were 5/32" 6010 and some anchor brand 3/16" that don't run up hill worth a dam. Dident want to run a crap load of 3/32" 7018. Will be picking up some more 7018s once the blizzard is over.Sent from my HTC One X using TapatalkLast edited by darlingtonfarm; 01-05-2014 at 05:47 PM.
Reply:im sure it will hold fine. 6010 burns deep either way and you put plenty of passes down.
Reply:The TB 302 airpak is expensive but if your truck has limited load capacity like mine it was the route I wentAnd you will never get the same cfm out put as the screw compressor that it has from small piston compressors and since you will be running it to use a cac off the welder you just flip on the compressor and go for it...and you don't have another engine to maintain or fuel.... same thing applies when using a plasma cutterIt just made perfect sense to meBacked my CATMA over your CARMA oops clusmy me  What would SATAN do ?? Reply:If you have the bucks, and need small and light, these are the shiznit.  http://www.oasismfg.com/index.htmlI got a great deal on a 2nd hand Rolair gas powered 20cfm unit, but it's significantly more weight and space.  But it'll run a 1" impact all day long, which is handy sometimes.  S/F....Ken MBailing out a customer at an inconvenient time and bad weather may make him remember how valuable you were and give you some repeat business in better times.I remember the various service guys (plumbers, electricians, mechanics, dirt contractors, etc.) who have helped me out when I was in a bind and they're the first I call.
