http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/w...ategory%20Pagesorry for the long link.i'm thinking of a bandsaw. i like the swivel head instead of swinging the stock around for my application.1st any good/ bad reports about this saw?2nd is there any way to flip it up to cut verticaly? this would be a great feature for me (limited floor space)i dont mind if i have to cut bits off / fab things to make it work.thanksG
Reply:The jet site has the manual http://content.jettools.com/manuals/m_414457.pdf and it does not list 'vertical' as an option.I do not have that particular saw but have two other swivel head 5x6 saws. One suggest vertical is ok - and included a cheap-o table - the other advises that it is not to be used vertical. But neither of the saws have read the manual and I have used both of them vertical.
Reply:i got a similar grizzly for a few hundrede $ less..just a thought..

Reply:I have a 7x12 Jet that I bought used about 6 yrs ago and it has to be 10-12 yrs old. It was being replaced because a few of the blade guide bearings had frozen up. Turns out that the bearings are easily found and cost 3 buck a piece. It ran 6-8 hrs a day, 6 days a week before I purchased it and I use it daily (although I only run it 1-2 hrs a day) It is one of the best equip. investments I've made and I would buy the exact same saw if I ever needed a new one.As far as the option of vertical cutting.... I had made a rest for the head to swivel back against, and a table that attached to the base and it worked real well the few times I used it that way. Unfortunately, those got lost in my last move. If you do make one, I would suggest to consider coolant flow and drainage (if used) before you try them out so you don't have to clean up the mess

Reply:i have that model Jet saw.  you can disconnect the hyd. downfeed and flip it up to use vertically.  the guy that reviewed it on your link was right on.  if you are a good tinkerer, you could get some good cuts.
Reply:The castings are the same.  It's the bolt ons that make the saws different. My name's not Jim....
Reply:i did my home work on band saws wanted a ellis but for less money got a grizzly saw and combo sander rollers extra blades and sand paper for less $$$ both are 115/230and made in tiwan a lot better then china Attached Images
Reply:I just came across this thread.Has anyone used or owns the Northern Tool Swivel Bandsaw?  It's on;y $399 and looks to be very similar to the JEt and Grizzly, but with only a 1/3 HP motor.....  any thoughts?

Reply:arvidj........ I think this is actually a 5x6 saw.  And the motor housing looks different than the HF-style 4x6 bandsaw.  I wonder if this saw needs fewer "tweaks" than the HF-style 4x6 needs.
Reply:"made in tiwan a lot better then china "Ummmmm.. ed mac - Taiwan is China.

Reply:Anyone know if it is possible to add a coolant system to this Jet 5x6 (that does not come with one)?Ed Mac's G0613 looks great but with economy in mind, I am looking at less expensive swivel saws.  http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...egory%2520PageMiller 211 MIGMiller 375 Extreme Plasma CutterMiller Maxstar 150 STL TIGOxy-Acetylene torch
Reply:Never used that one, but we just got this one at the shop.http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...7513_200397513I can't think of anything bad to say about it. It's heavy and very solid, suprisingly well built. Tuning it in to make near perfect cuts across 8 4x4" tubes (4 wide 2 high) was easy, too.It has only made a couple of hundred cuts so far, but I think it will hold up nicely.Miller EconotigCutmaster 38Yes ma'am, that IS a screwdriver in my pocket!
