LN 25 setting voltage

I have a LN25 wire feeder, and I was wandering when setting voltage, mine only has a needle that shows voltage, I can not remember if when you set the voltage you want, when you are welding or is the voltage at what the needle is set at before you start welding.  So if I want, say 25 volts do I set it at 25 then that's my setting or set it while I weld with it.     Thanks
Reply:That needle is reading actual voltage (assuming it is accurate), you need to allow for the drop when you are welding. Mine needs to be set about 4-5 volts high depending on cable length. You can check its accuracy with a multimeter and adjust accordingly.
Reply:I never thought about it, I don't look at dials, I adjust machines to what ever the puddle requires. According to my LN-25's manual. “The 40V DC analog voltmeter is mounted to the front control panel of the LN-25 and is connected to read the arc voltage between the LN-25 electrode cable connection and the work clip lead.”NOTE:1. The Voltmeter will read zero if the LN-25 work clip lead is not connected to work, even if the electrode is electrically "hot” to work.2. The Voltmeter will read below zero if the LN-25 polarity switch is not set to the same polarity as the electrode.3. Reply:I am with CEP, I have always adjusted by feel, unless the procedure calls for exact voltage and wire speed.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:You also will not get a reading on most engine drive power sources until the machine goes to high idle speed.
