Working on 2G Tig open root tubing (1/8" thick) using 1/16 filler rod. I'm typically using a 3/32 gap, no bevel. I'm having a problem with penetration and suck back because I can't tell what to look for to ensure I'm putting enough filler in. I'm running around 100 amps, flooding the puddle and watching the edges of the tubing to ensure I don't blow a hole, but is there any advice on what to look for to ensure the reinforcement? I can't really walk the cup because there's no bevel to hold it so I'm pretty much free handing it. The only other thing I saw is on 5G/6G (on larger pipes though) guys are feed the rod through the inside to have it fill from the back so I might try that as well.Last edited by ThrashMachine; 11-13-2013 at 03:16 PM.

Reply:Thanks for the response I think what was happening what I wasn't putting enough heat in it to melt the back side, and not enough wire at the same time to fill, so I adjusted today and pretty much fixed all that
Reply:Suck back is caused from Slow Travel Speed for the amps/ heat you have, also if your using 1/8 gap then use 1/8 filler, 1/16 is toooo small, play around with travel speed and tungsten length , you Don't want to Preheat or have a puddle on front of weld, root passes work great when you pull tungsten in and only melt/ weld / travel, at same time , don't preheat to far In front then try to fillSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
