My first project thread here in this forum.  Copy/pasted from my thread in a weightlifting forum.  Hope you all don't mind Building this for a friend.  Most of the way done.  Still need to fabricate the safeties, pull up bar, finish the j-hooks, and weld the feet to the bottom.  There is removable weight storage on both sides which is pipe welded to 5' of 3/8 plate.  Pipes are welded over tapped holes which is how it attaches to the rack.  I only put up the left side just for the pic.  Will get more pics this weekend when I (hopefully) finally finish the whole thing.  Going to be spending the next 3 days on vacation at Glenwood Springs so I can't work on it until Thursday or Friday evening.2"x3" 11ga tubing, 3/4" hardware.  All holes precisely drilled on a Bridgeport mill My messy garage:Close-up of weight storage weld.  Hope it meets approval here!Welded together J-hooks:Aspiring welder w/ a Hobart 210mvpCeler, Silens, Mortalis
Reply:Looks nice. I'd never trust my welding for my rack, especially the j hooks.
Reply:Looks good. How long did it take the Bridgeport to drill all the holes?Dave ReberWadsworth Ohio
Reply:Good welds and design.  Why did you weld th j cups and not bend into shape.  Also, what is your safety bar design? Good job!

Reply:All done, shtty pic.  Hopefully my buddy I built it for will paint it today and get me some better pics (as long as it is above freezing today).  The only thing I had a problem with while finishing this thing was a poor fit up on one of the safeties.  One of the 45* braces had some pretty nasty gaps and I burnt through a couple of times.  Wound up building up an ugly weld, grinding it down, and putting a pretty weld back over it to make myself feel better about it :PAspiring welder w/ a Hobart 210mvpCeler, Silens, Mortalis
Reply:Looks good. Bolt it to the floor and load up the bar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Find a Ronnie Colman squat clipDave ReberWadsworth Ohio
Reply:All painted in my buddy's house.  He really needs to buy a better bench! Aspiring welder w/ a Hobart 210mvpCeler, Silens, Mortalis
Reply:Nice job ! Sometimes you need to grind a weld down to make a prettier one over it. 10 pounds of rod later.      KIDDING. Why not make a bench for him ? You know you can build one better and stronger. Like stated around here, why buy it for $50 when you can build it for a $100.00

Reply:Thanks!  This is the second one I have made, and both times I learned a lot of lessons about fabricating.  Seems the best way to learn to do something is to just go ahead and do it and learn from each mistake!Aspiring welder w/ a Hobart 210mvpCeler, Silens, Mortalis
Reply:Great job! It looks well crafted and fabricated. Nothing beats custom made builds, they're better and sturdier. I'm sure your friend was satisfied.
