what rod should i use to stick weld rebar. just making ornamental things nothing structural
Reply:6011, 6013 ,7014 , 7018 which ever works best for you.________________________________Everlast PA140STEverlast PowerPlasma 50And no you can't Borrow them
Reply:Use 7018. I use to weld chicken ladders for the steel mills. I've tried 6010, 6011, 6013, 7014, E71T-11 flux core…….. they don't hold up well if dropped. For stick, use 7018."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:alright thanks
Reply:look for rebar w/ a W on it.   Theres different grades of rebar.   the one that has a small raised W is for welding.   its not rare or much more expensive or anything.   usually grade 706 i think.
Reply:For yard art, any grade will do. For the chicken ladders, the material was bought at Menards."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:If wouldn't think 6011, is the reason your chicken ladders crack apart when they fall over.   I've done my fair share of stuff w/ rebar as far as ornamental.   I prefererred to use 6011 over 7018 it leaves a smaller bead, lays flatter, and penetrates adeauate.  I just like my joints to look more like more melted in of forged look on this type of art, than to have a rolled looking bead on them.  Like I said, rebar with a "w" on it is not hard to obtain and isn't pricey.  Just sounds like common sense to me to use something intended to be welded on.   6011 is quick and easy to tack, and not much slag, and plenty adequate for for falling over.
Reply:Rebar around here is graded 2 through 6 with 6 being the hardest. It is also very hard to bend. I've always used 5P on the rebar unless grade 6 and use 7018's for it.
Reply:Just another opinion worth nothing.....For lawn-art, I've used all types mentioned previously.  I prefer whatever I grab my hands on at the time.  Usually 3/32" and whatever is closest to my reach, works just fine.  ...and I weld a $h!+ load of rebar, including most grades and sizes.  I have a rebar shop about a mile away from me and I'm in there weekly buying the ccrap.Lincoln Power Mig 216Lincoln AC/DC-225/125Miller  625 X-Treme PlasmaMiller 211 Forney 95FI-A 301HF 91110Victor Journeyman O/PMilwaukee DaytonMakita  Baileigh NRA Life Member
Reply:I'm just passing along what worked, and didn't work for me. Below is a pic of the set up I used. The center board was there because after I would weld, my nephew would unload and reload the jigs. Each jig handled four chicken ladders, each ladder had four welds, and I would make either three or four hundred ladders at a time. The trailer was there to toss them in for delivery. The second pic is a ladder in the jig. The one time I decided to try the various rod I had on hand, so I could use it up, I was tossing the welded ladders on the ground, in a pile. Well after about one hundred or so, I started loading them in drums for delivery. To my surprise, most of them had to be re-welded because one or more pieces broke off. So the test I came up with was to take a welded one and toss it as high as I could in the air and see what happens when it hit the ground. The ones welded with 7018 were the only ones that didn't break. Again, I'm just passing along what has worked for me!"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:Nice pics, and jig setup.   Looks like an organized way to go about it.   Must admit, it's pretty hard to beat 7018

Reply:I've welded thousands of precast concrete panels with rebar coming out the ends like in the first picture.  The panels are placed end to end with just a couple inch gap between the ends of the rebar. We had to slap a piece of angle iron under the rebar and make 4 welds like in the top right of the second picture. We always used NS-3M Innershield. If you didn't weld at least a hundred angle iron clips in an 8-hour day, someone else would be doing it the next day.  Attached ImagesDon’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
