Accidentally left the main valve open the other night. Anyone else ever done that? (that's not really my question)Anyhow, I lost about 50% of the fresh bottle of shield gas while I slept. My regulator's glass sight tube that the ball dances in, has a small hole in it's top. It's a Miller Dynasty package OEM regulator. It came with a little self adhesive circular sticker that covers the hole in the top of the tube. I noticed tonight that a little shield gas continually seeps out from under the gummy side of the sticker. Can't remember my old regulator being vented to atmosphere like this. I'm only guessing that the vent hole, is the only way the gas flow can make the little ball measure flow? Seems like a waste of shield gas. It also seems to happen anytime the main tank valve is open regardless of if I am welding or not, so the airflow is not passing the solenoid, but rather leaking from the regulator's top itself. so:1) Is it odd to have seen my shield gas wasted just because it was open overnight?2) is this sticker something that should be replaced? Is it's function just to keep dirt out of the tube?3) did leaving a full pressure bottle on and open all night long damage my regulator?

Reply:well correct me if i am wrong but i am assuming that the flowmeter tube is set for a little more pressure than recommended for the flowmeter psi. i think most range from 40-50 psi. so it could have been a manufacturing defect or if you got it used then it could have been someone tampering with it trying to fix it. but you said something about warranty so never mind!VictorPraxairAir LiquideMillerLincoln Electric |
