I just recently bumped into these auto darkening welding goggles. I was so impressed at first had to calm down and collect the facts to paint a better picture of them. The goggles are branded "Servore Arc513" and are design and made in an unusual place. South Korea.Traditionally Japan has the best quality in Asia with China on the other end. You would have to put Koreas quality just behind Japans in the Asian district.Anyway these are clearly the only type on the market being an industry first. They look quality and theirs nothing else like it. It has the endorsement of Miller as they include it in selling a package on their website. They haven't been around long and I cannot find any reviews on themI would still opt for a normal helmet for MIG welding. But for TIG I can see some advantages. Especially if you are production welding or site welding. For just over $200AU its a reasonable price.I would love to know peoples thoughts especially if you have used one
Reply:I would end up burning my face off, or die of heat stroke if I had to wear a thermal hood.So it would be a thumbs down for me.

Reply:Wow we r so isolated in Australia. The Optrel Weldcap looks awesome also. Never seen it b4
Reply:I like the Weldcap concept except for one major thing....It don't flip up...It's either put it on or take it off.Well, wait...as it turns out, you have to rotate whole cap back over your head which to me would be irritating compared to headgear that remained in place...I give it an 'amost' with 3 stars...plus the battery deal is a con....none of my helmets use replaceable batts..they have permanent batt with solar.Last edited by wornoutoldwelder; 04-12-2015 at 08:23 AM.
Reply:They are so clear #3 shade that it's like tinted sunglasses The optics are far superior to anything i have tried and the size of the lens no longer matters because they are like wearing glasses ..your eye is close to the lensIt is NOT great for odd out of position welds because it does not attach to your head like headgear in a hood  ...But hoods are not real great for that sometimes eitherneed to put your head in a small spot ...these work for that better than a hoodDid some arcair and plasma cutting and they work great for that So far so good got to do some plasma cutting and mig work today so i will see how they are for thatGot mine off ebay from these guys.....  http://www.ebay.com/itm/371140046410...%3AMEBIDX%3AITLuke i am your fatherWho's your daddyThe Unknown Weldor Backed my CATMA over your CARMA oops clusmy me  What would SATAN do ?? Reply:Why does the Optrel setup have that stupid bill on it? The goggle part that has the lens looks pretty legit, but with all that crap attached it looks like something you'd give to a kid to weld in. If I'm in a tight space I just put on a head sock and drop my Tradesman 2x4 auto darkening lens into some gas welding goggles.
