DIY Fume extractor with Canfan

Reply:I'm interested as well.  Are you planning to build a movable arm, fixed duct work to the center or affix it on a wall?   Sounds like a speed controller can be pricey with the can fan's, but I'm not sure if it's really needed.
Reply:I had everything picked out at home depot and it totaled 200+ which is very fair. Reply:Where is everyone venting their fumes to? I have two vents built into the peak of my garage. Looks to me that I could just extend the flex hose up and connect to one of them.  Comments?

Reply:My shop is only 24'x30' with an open ceiling - no attic. The vents really don't do much in the way of reducing the temps in the summer. Normally have the roll-ups open and have a couple of windows for cross flow also. I found some 8" flex hose at an auction that's about 25' in length. With my extractor tube and an inline fan, I think I can duct everything right out the existing vent. We'll see.
Reply:You got a screaming deal on that fan if it's actually CAN brand. Try to keep the amount of ducting on the inlet side of the fan to a minimum, as well as using as little flexible duct as possible. Rigid ducting flows much better and is actually cheaper than a high quality flex duct.

Reply:Don't they say not to restrict the flow of these units? My Grizzly is 570cfm and I am looking for a smaller unit. It is just overkill in so many situations that I don't even use it.
