About 15 years ago I picked up a new offshore lathe just to make stuff for myself .Then one day concentrating on a small part for the race car I touched the chuck jaw. I had a friend who is in tool and die take a look and I had damaged the teeth on a bronze gear. He told me he liked to replace the steel pins with welding rod so they would shear off .I have used the lathe manually for the longest time , Now I have finely taken it apart and replaced the gear .What would the softest welding rod I find 7014 ?
Reply:Try brass rod if you want something softer than steel. Or aluminum.Or, if you really want something to give easy, use aluminum, with grooves turned in it. |
