Im going to be a full-time dual enrollment student next year, meaning ill be taking a few academic classes at trade school to finish high highschool and taking my welding classes. Knowing that I will be using my hood almost everyday for the next to years, i have decided that it is time to upgrade. I am stuck between the Jackson Boss and the Jackson Balder, but I cannot find information on using them in various welding positions....I am not sure wether it is truly an issue, and if i need to be concerned abut damaging a helmet while learning overhead or other position welding. I have read and heard that certain helmets are not meant for overhead welding, but I am not sure how true that is. I would like to hear your opinions on these two helmets, and if I need to worry about damaging them while welding in various positions. Thank you for any help y'all can give!
Reply:I don't think either are rated for overhead. As far as I know, for auto-dark helmets only the Optrel is.Problem with many of these helmets there are too many corners on the face to trap spatter. I had one piece melt through the rubber insulation that holds in the glass on a Miller Elite helmet. Never a danger per se, but I don't use it for overhead that much.Optrel says in their advertisement that they are good for overhead.Con Fuse!Miller Dynasty 350Millermatic 350P-Spoolmatic 30AMiller Multimatic 200Hypertherm PowerMax 1000G3Miller Maxstar 200DX
Reply:Thats kind of what i thought, I will probably go ahead and get one of these and keep a spare fixed shade in my bag as a back up and for when I know we will be doing overhead or out of position welding. |
