A guy at work has had some welding cable hanging in his garage for a few years that he said was given to him and he told me the other day he'd probably never use it.  I responded by telling him if he ever decided he wanted to get rid of it to let me know.Well, this morning when I got to work, this was laying on my office floor.  58' of 2/0 with a female Tweco quick disconnect on one end.  I actually have the male mate for it too.So here's my recently acquired Roughneck 2E that came with a whopping 10' long 1/0 electrode lead and a just shy of 7' 2/0 ground lead. But I find myself in a bit of a dilema.  The Roughneck is rated for 200amps continuous and 225amps maximum and as such 1/0 cable would be good for up to 200' total combined lead length or 1 gauge would be good for up to 150' total length and I just can't bring myself to section this 58' piece of 2/0 for such short, major overkill leads.  In addition, the Miller jack plugs aren't large enough to be properly assembled with 2/0 cable without removing almost 1/4 of the 2/0 cable strands at the plug which I also can't bring myself to do.So here's an offer I'd like to throw out there:I'd be willing to trade the 58' of 2/0 for a single greater or combined greater length of 1/0 or 1 gauge cable so if you've got some of either laying around and you're interest, PM me and we can talk about it.DuaneMM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Thought hard about that idea too 7A749 but the Roughneck just doesn't need 2/0 leads.  I'll be adding new #1 or 1/0 leads in the near future and the total distance I decide on will determine which so I won't be cutting up that 58' length of 2/0.Thanks for the suggestions.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Originally Posted by 7A749Hope someone out there can help you out. I sure wouldn't cut that lead up either. If you have a few different machines, those pony leads come in mighty handy. I have them for everything & just connect what I need. I use them on my TB 302 as well. I have plug in style lead reels, I even have a set for those. I can attach my spoolgun, wire feeder, CAC, whatever to it & good to go. I'm sure something will come your way. BTW, I had a '74 Roughneck 2E. It's a good machine for an AC only unit. You got a good price on it & it's not all beat to crap. I'm sure you'll pretty it up in no time. Good luck with it!7A749
Reply:Well I got tired of looking for decent lengths of used welding cables  and ran across this ad http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/tls/1119792982.html on craigslist last week and after communicating with the seller regarding shipping and payment ordered two 100' lengths of 1/0 for the Roughneck.  Best price I could do locally was $1.50/ft before tax and 1 hour round trip.  With both the seller and I being in Texas, sales tax applied and even with that and shipping, bottom line was $1.40/ft.  Out of state buyers could make out even better w/o the tax.Ordered yesterday arrived today via UPS Ground.Cables all assembled with jack plugs, ground clamp and electrode holder.Close up of cable strain relief that I had to fabricate as the ground clamp didn't have one. Stand by - electrode holder connection details to follow in next post.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Used a doubled up piece of .035 wire for the insulation restraint.Insulation restraint wrapped up with copper foil strip along with cable strands as it should be.  Copper foil strips were used on all connections.Cable end and insulation restraint anchored by electrode holder set screw. Thanks for looking.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:So duaneb55!will you be selling that 0/2 lead cable, now that you have your Roughneck all setup? Its a little on the heavy side for my Lincoln 225, but I could probably put it to good use if you want to get rid of it!#1. If you don't like what I wrote, or if it offends you, then don't read it!#2. I am living life the way I see fit, if you don't like the way I'M living, tough sh**!
Reply:Duaneb55, have a question for you.  I found a Miller roughneck 2e for sale locally for 350.00.  Is it a good price and is it good for anything else but house work? Thanks
