Hi guys.....I'm about to buy my first welder. I've done lots of research on stick welders and I've decided on the longevity stick weld 200. Does anyone have one of these or know any thing about them?
Reply:I recently bought an Everlasting Longevitude 250 Amp stick welder for $350.  It's called an Idealarc and it came with 100 foot 1/0 leads."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder
Reply:I know they cost as much or more than used, proven industrial machines and therefore I don't need one.  For that money I'd have a Dialarc or Idealarc. Heck, I got my Miller 340 for 250 bucks. We try to warn folks. Do what you want but for stick, give me a stout transformer machine. We don't have threads with people weeping that their transformer beast quit running, and we do have many people whose classic welding machines are older than they are.

Reply:Yep - another fan of big ugly heavy transformer machines. The one in my avatar is a 1967, three years older than me Or even get the standard lincoln 225 AC tombstone. $100 for those.$250-400 will get you a Dialarc - awesome stick welder.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.

Reply:Yup, what DSW said.If you want an inverter, there are several inverter welders with better quality for not much more money.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:I'm teaching a member on another site how to weld. He bought a Longevity Stickweld 250. He brought it to my shop for one of his welding lessons. I could tell right away there was something wrong with it, even though it welded, I knew it wasn't quite right. After a couple private messages with Longevity they replaced his machine. The Stickweld 250 really ran a nice bead with 7018. I have 4 or 5 different brands of 6010, it seemed to like ESAB's 10P-Plus the best. I had to hold a very close arc with 6010.Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400

Reply:ok....so is this a good machine for its price....I hope so....from what I read on the reviews it is
Reply:sorry I didn't see your post...I didn't check on the customer service.

Reply:Originally Posted by DSWObviously not enough research.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...-Service-SucksNot the only problem thread about their customer service. Sadly many of these problem threads were deleted by the company when they bought their own section and had the threads moved where they had control. There are other threads listing issues as well.Their units may be better than they once were, but their customer service hasn't seemed to change much. If you have issues, read the warranty closely. I believe it's still on your dime if you have to send it back for any reason.Inexpensive import machines have their place. Just keep in mind most are generally considered "disposable" if you have any issues out of warranty. It's seldom cost effective to repair them.

Reply:There have been fallouts with more people here than just Lanse the other 2 I have met and know personally ..I never met Lanse in person but I have had dealings with him All of them I know and respect ...But lugweld and simon have been proven liars many timesand have been vindictive to these guys when things went bad for their products through no fault of the guys doing demos of there machines...Demonizing the demo guys will not fix the problem of the short comings of the machine or fix the incompetence of the company ...nor will changing the warranty at the last minute so you don't have to honor itAttachment 556351Backed my CATMA over your CARMA oops clusmy me  What would SATAN do ?? Reply:I was also interested in buying a Longevity welder, one of the tig machines.  Between reading all of the bad stuff about the company and receiving multiple emails saying "We'll call you" without ever receiving a call I decided against it.  Happy I didn't waste the money because I found a very nice condition Lincoln PT185 on Craigslist for $1000 with a 3/4 full 248cf argon tank, about 10lbs of aluminum and steel rod and some various consumables.

Reply:Lanse is a prima donna.  He was slammed here for some video or another and hasn't resurfaced.  He has a lot of potential, but he looks before he leaps, and doesn't always know what he's talking about. I have three Longevity machines, and all three have been flawless.  I had another, but it was DOA, and Dan swapped it out for me.
