Tomorrow I have to do a welding job on my drain plow and Im thinking i'm gonna grind of the rust and paint and use 7018 because it is a very rough use implement (has a lot of shaking and jarring). But would you guys do something different?Miller Dialarc 250Miller Bobcat 225Hobart Oxy/FuelCouple of Dewalt and Milwaukee GrindersJET Bandsaw and Drill Press
Reply:7018 does not weld as well on bad fittup or dirty parent material.6010/6011 offers a penetrating weld for dirtier or not so good fittups. If you have access to a oxy fuel outfit in which can hard surface using a metal powder that would be cool!VictorPraxairAir LiquideMillerLincoln Electric
Reply:I'd grind and use 7018. Good prep never hurts anything. If I had open root joints for some reason, then I'd do a root pass with 6010/11 to close things up 1st, but after that it would be 7018..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Clean it up and weld it with 7018.. It's the best rod for your application.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:I'm with DSW . Clean it up and run 6010 first and then 7018. |
