Reply:http://www.gsa.gov/portal/content/113754 - Nickel silver facts w/ pros and conshttp://www.totalmateria.com/Article38.htm - Weldability of nickel alloys. That's going to be an expensive rail system regarding price per pound of nickel isn't cheap. $5.77 a pound today. There is actually no silver in nickel silver. It is really just a nickel alloy from what I was reading. GTAW will be your best bet. Other professionals in this process will guide you where you need to go from here. I'm sure somebody will chime in soon and tell you exactly what you need to know!Might want to move this thread into general weld questions or The other one where it will receive more traffic. Is the customer wanting nickel silver because he is installing the rails in a corrosive environment? If welded properly it can be done. I have never fooled with it, but the facts are there in the print it can be welded perfectly fine. Finish will look clean if welded right and the strength is there. http://www.nickelinstitute.org/en/Te...aseAlloys.aspx - check out the pdf on strength characteristics for nickel alloys.Last edited by AndrewDavenport89; 04-21-2015 at 12:07 PM.
Reply:Nickel silver is only about 15% nickel, the rest is copper and zinc. I'm not sure TIG is a good idea due to the high zinc content (20 - 25%). Braze welding with nickel silver brazing rods would be my first choice.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:Wow huge $$$$$! Got to see pictures of this. I've used a bit of nickel braze to put stainless headbages on bike tubing, that filler will not TIG. Used O/A.SqWave 200Millermatic 190Airco 200 ACHypertherm PM45Boice-Crane Band SawVictor O/A
Reply:A variant of brass, mostly.  Braze/braze weld, in the traditional sense, using torch.   Pretty stuff."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder
