Making 6011 look good is my next challenge

I own top quality machines for all four welding processes, but I find myself migrating back to stick. Recently I bought a Miller Bobcat 250 machine for a back up generator for my house, while also having a nice outdoor welder. Very happy with it's performance. I find it easy to blame the type of rod for the lack of beauty , but I'm determined to work on that skill until I get it right. This weld was using a 1/8 6011 rod at around 130 amps. Reply:130 amps is a bit high on 1/8" 6011, even if you were running on AC. Typically you are looking at suggested amp settings of between 60-70 on the low end and 110-120 on the high end.I've seen a few rare people who can make really nice 6010/11 beads. Beads that can come really close to looking like 7018 can. Those look pretty good for the average  user. If you can tighten up your ripples they'd be outstanding..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Cep, is the 335A, andor 335C for that matter, worth the effort to source?  I use 6011 at work a lot and have just been using the Fleetweld 180 due to ease of finding it.  The old white Murex or Harris (IIRC) were phenomenal.  I found a half open box on the back of pallet recently in my shop. Probably there for at least 10 years and I totally forgotten how nice they ran. The regular Hobart(Selectrode) sucks!Last edited by kald; 12-16-2013 at 09:15 PM.
Reply:I don't know anything about the 335C, but the 335A is childs play to run. Someone told me it has arc stabilizer in the flux to make it easier to run on AC. Reply:Gobysky, another thing that might help you! While welding play with the arc length, get closer, and farther away. Remember the results! Closer is a cooler puddle, more fill. Father away is a hotter puddle for cutting your way in. I find myself changing the arc length for each ripple. Give it a try, and see what you think.
