So basically I'm looking for a good TIG welder. I'm assuming most of you will say Miller's Dynasty. I'm not partial to any brand name (as long as it's a good one!). Something that will preferably run off a 50amp circuit, that's relatively portable and small, and will give me the best bang for my buck. I'll be welding everything with it. The thicker aluminum I can do with my MIG but it would be nice to be able to weld 1/4" aluminum. I know there's also the Thermal Dynamics machines, Lincoln TIG's, and I've seen some recommend the HTP machines. I don't think I've ever heard anything about the Hobart TIG's, are they any good? I have a $6000 budget for shop improvement so I'd like to be in the $2000-$3000 range for the TIG. I'm not opposed to buying used either.John 3:16(2) Miller Pheonix 456(2) Millermertic 252Dynasty 210DXHobart 210MVPDoringer D350 SA Cold SawScotchman 350LT Cold SawWebb 10x50 MillWebb 15x40 LatheGeka Bendicrop Ironworker
Reply:Dynasty would be my 1st choice given the parameters you have listed. The Thermal Arc 186 isn't a bad choice either, but I'd give the nod to the Dynasty on output and options.Portability sort of rules out the Syncrowaves, but if you didn't need a portable machine a Syncrowave 250 would be ideal, and the Syncrowave 210 might also fit your bill..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:if you're looking to be able to weld 1/4" with little concern for exceeding duty cycle, you're looking at a pretty much non-portable machine, as it will need to be able to do 250+A at relatively high duty cycles. 1st on WeldingWeb to have a scrolling sig! Reply:50 amp circuit is going to rule our the transformer machines at full power.  They pretty much need 100 amp service.  That'll run a HTP 221/Dynasty 200/Lincoln 205 just fine.  S/F....Ken M

Reply:The Lincoln PT 225 tranny will run on a 50 amp 230v circuit. Excellent ac/dc tig machine and very good stick welder too. Right in your budget.Last edited by snoeproe; 12-23-2013 at 10:32 AM.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
