Holding fixture

I made a holding fixture for the guys at work. The tool consists of 2 pieces. The bracket and arm... The ones on the right (painted ones)were made by a professional certified welder. Reply:I have a question. Ive heard of using ss rod on mild steel welds makes them look nice... I did that here and all the welds look rusted colored. Is that real corrosion or just the reaction from using ss rod? Btw if doing that ruins structural capabilities.. Its ok here because this just holds something up to be worked on. Reply:Lmao i didnt wanna say. But air force qualified welders...  Im not sure but looks like mig to me? I believe the air force only mandates they get "certified 6g" on TIG. Mig they just have to get signed off on their training records. So sorry for the misnomer of certified at first...Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

Reply:The last weld looks better than the "pro" done welds. It looks like you need to clean the steel and use more amps, the color is from exposure to air after the shielding leaves it while hot. As for the stainless filler on steel, it depends on the kind of filler. 309/312 are usually said to be ok for use on steel. Reply:Yea its 309 rod. I knew i was too cold only because I wanted to play with the ss rod and wanted longer feed time. If that makes sense. I was hoping to get a stacked dimes look in that copper color. Didn't work out lol...i did clean were the steel met just didn't bother with the whole piece of angle.
