Decided my old expanded metal headache rack was getting alittle long in the tooth and didn't really show me any favors as far as ornamental skills so I decided to build a nice looking rack. Used 2" 3/16 tube for the outer wall 1" 1/8 wall for the runners and 3/8s round stock for my webbing. Here are the pics from start to finish. Took about 8 hours to do all the work including bending the stock and installing on the truck. Reply:Looks cool.  Could you incorporate your company logo into the webs? It might do some advertising for you.   Shameless self promotion isn't a bad thing.  LolMiller BobcatHarris cutting outfitMiller spectrum 625 plasmaVariety of shopmade tools
Reply:Not a bad Idea I don't know if I am going to keep this one or sell it just yet. I have learned a good bit on making this one and came up with a lot of different ideas that I would like to incorporate into the next one. I'm sure someone is going to stop me at gas station or something and offer to buy it I have sold a couple of racks that way. Just pull the 6 bolts and send it to its next home. Reply:Looks good, and creative.  Looks like you did the cutout for the brake light after you had the web complete?
Reply:yeah I didn't like the way it turned out so I took the grinder and cut it out would have only taken 7 hours if I had saved time on the notches, cut outs and do overs. It was a learning process on that one. I didn't want the hassle with the state inspection that Virginia has about covering a light.Vantage 300 kubota ,miller 304 xmt ,lincoln ln 25 pro , ranger 305 G, plenty of other tools of the trade to make the sparks fly.
Reply:Man, that's a sweet build! Nice idea!
Reply:Not only does it look good on your truck, you can tie your gas bottles and stuf to it, it will give shade, more privacy and it protects your rear window. The spider is the only thing missing IMO.

Reply:I made the uprights on the side stick up a tiny bit so that things would not slide off the ends. You can see it pretty well with the snow on the roof. My trail/utility truck in its winter storage (snowy grave) I don't know what I'm gonna do with the windows on mine just yet. Expanded metal seems so tacky. The spider web is bad *** but I don't think it fits this truck. I was kinda thinking  more mechanical but I have not made up my mind yet.Last edited by atari; 02-08-2014 at 07:53 PM.(Home)Miller Maxstar 152 (sold)MM211/spool gunLincoln AC 225C(Work)Dynasty 350Powcon 300STLincoln SP-175TWeldlodgic AWS150sWeldlodgic AWS300Custom Resistance seam weldersCambridge Vacuum EB weldersI smell something burning.
Reply:Neat . That is the first one I have seen like that

Reply:The one thing I like about my headache rack is it has lights... also, you can leave your sliding rear window open in the summer... I think I have maybe 2" between the cab and rack.
Reply:not to be picky, but I would have liked to see the webbing arched the other direction... otherwise I like it.There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
