So I picked up this compressor for $40 bucks on craigslist from a business that said the motor had went out and they basically just wanted someone to hall it off. Come to find out it was the pressure switch it had bad contact. I figured this out when i bypassed the pressure switch and direct wired it to a 30 amp 2 pole breaker in my fuse box it fired right up. So the problem is I cant find any info on the model number online. Is it junk or a decent compressor? I ordered a pressure switch off ebay for $25 still has not came in. Can someone tell me if this is a single stage or dual and what can I expext and not expect from this compressor for a home shop. This is the info off the motor and tank, nothing is on the pump except a model number AM204model AM204-80VMagnatek Century AC motor230 volt motor3450 RPM22 amps60 Hz5.0 HPPH. 1The Tank has a engraved plate on it that says...Certified by Stoystown Tank and Steel Co. Reply:175psi is going to be two stage.  Is it good or not?  I don't think it really matters for what ya paid, but I would say it's at least worth the money spent. My name's not Jim....
Reply:Emglo name most likely means it's good stuff. The brand was taken over by Dewalt  IIRC and parts can be found off the Dewalt site. A repair shop should also be able to hook you up with the right pieces or the right contact cuz this was an good brand with lots of product out there. You may be able to get useful info from Emglo manuals for similar machines (similar CFM, pressure, HP - different config or motors); I also suspect if you look at brand new Dewalt compressors in similar ratings you'll find one that looks almost exactly like yours  and there's good chance the manual and parts for the new one will work for you.Sounds like a great find.Rufus

Reply:That is a 2 stage intercooled head and with a 5 hp it will prob be 15 to 22 cfmmeaning lots to spray with (assuming its not worn out)
Reply:Change the oil. Get synthetic oil, no matter what anyone says. We used to change the regular oil in our compressors every three months in summer or less. Because of carbon ball build up in the check valves. The oil always came out black and had some metal in it. We switched to synthetic and I am more afraid of not remembering to change it ever again. I know one time after a year, I said even though it is still clear oil, I am going to change it. And it came out better then the regular oil goes in. I wish I knew the exact brand my compressor guy uses. Expensive but worth every cent. If I see him soon I will ask him.        Sincerely,             William McCormick
