Reply:looking to see  if by those  pictures  if there is anything  special about this    ??   the one welder I would like to have  has a 30% duty cycle at 150 amps    this one is  60% at 250 amps    almost  to good to be true
Reply:The primary concern should be who is selling it, what kind of reputation their company has, what online reviews say about the product (especially post sale service and repair) and what type of warranty is offered. Some online sellers of import equipment tout long warranties, but once you do some digging, you'll find that a great many of their customers were very unhappy about the way warranty claims were handled. For even some, waiting months for their machines to be returned to them, still in a non working state.I'm willing to bet money you're looking at some import machine in that picture, and that isn't necessarily a bad thing, but you would be wise to do a thorough search regarding the ppl selling it before you gave anyone any of your money. If they're offering you something that sounds too good to be true, it probably is.IMHO of courseExpert Garage Hack....https://www.facebook.com/steven.webber.948
Reply:The company has a pretty good reputation but welders is not there main business   it has a 60 day return policy and a 3 year warranty.    I can drive to there store about an hour away.
Reply:Oh yea my second choice is a miller 211

Reply:yup and they wont disclose  who makes it for them hence the pictures  top see if its just stuff thrown in there or its actually a decently build unit.     as they say a pic is worth a thousand  complaints
Reply:if you have the budget, go miller or lincoln..eastwood stands by there equipment, but the issue is parts down the road when you need them..miller or Lincoln will have them ..eastwood wont..Of all the things I lost I miss my mind the most...I know just enough about everything to be dangerous......You cant cure stupid..only kill it...
Reply:Last summer I got to run a member here Miller 211. Really nice arc. I was not impressed with the auto set at all tho. Here’s a few welds made on 16-GA square tube. Reply:It's not a cheaper machine by priceI can get the miller 211 after the rebate for 900 otd. I can get the eastwood for 900 otd Let me ask this   miller is 30% at 150 ampsWhat is the duty  at 200 ampsUnless I am doing production work  should 30%  be goodI was always told a higher duty = a stronger and better machine
Reply:Compare it to any of the above mentioned 250amp machines and it is cheaper 30% will be fine for a hobby Duty cycle at 200amps will be lower of course. You can look up the manual on Miller's site.Like  I said- they gotta save somewhere to make a 250amp machine and sell it for $900.00. Reply:I have worked in electronics since 1950.I see a lot of parts that can fail and cost a lot of money to fix.IF YOU CAN FIND SOMEONE TO FIX IT...I do most of my welding with an old Weldmaster 150 amp welder made in the 30s.I bought a Lincoln 225 in 1964 for 93 bucks so I could use 7018 rod.Too old to change now.
Reply:The reactor looks too skimpy to handle 250 amps.Wire looks like #8 good for 40 amps.

Reply:On "paper" the Eastwood 250 is the more robust unit. It's to new of a unit though to have real world proven reliability. The MM 211 on the other hand has had at least a 7 yr production run, so I say it's safe to state that it proven to be a reliable unit. The duty cycle on the 211 is established in a environment that is 104*F.  So if the temperature is less then 104*F at the location you are welding,  the duty cycle is going to be better then advertised. The advertised  duty cycle on the 211 at 200 amps is around 15%+ , based on my experience with a Hobart Handler 210 and 210 MVP at 200+ amps (same duty cycle rating) you're going to have to be taking on a pretty serious hobby level project to real push the duty cycle. Realize every time you stop running a bead to reposition yourself, reposition the part you are welding on, move to a different joint, or stop to do something else, the clock on the cooling portion of the duty cycle starts. Realize too, that it only takes a few seconds to run a 2" - 3" long bead.Personally I 'd prefer to have a unit the size of my Migmaster 250 (80% duty cycle @200 amps) over the 211. Until the Eastwood 250 has been around longer though, I'd probably favor the proven 211 over the Eastwood.Last edited by Dan; 05-01-2015 at 07:51 AM.ESAB Migmaster 250 Hobart Ironman 230Multimatic 215TWECO Fabricator 181i & 211iHH125EZ - nice little fluxcore only unitMaxstar 150 STH - very nice

Reply:Yea the eastwood looks great and yes its new of a unit.   The 211 on the paperwork is rated at 10%   will I be doing a lot of 1/4 no  so that's where the delima is     I really could use a multi voltage unit because  not each building has easy access to 220
Reply:^You're not going to be doing much 1/4 on 120v anyway.Lincoln PowerMIG 350mpEverlast PowerTIG 210EXT Hypertherm PowerMax45You merely adopted the iron, I was born in it, molded by it.

Reply:Your right I must have seen another chart  I also see 1/4 plate has a temp setting of  6.      I would guess a  6 is 150-165 amps    so that  would put me closer to 30%   3/16  has a setting of 10 yet the dilemma only goes to 8   so I guess that's when it's maxed out and at 15%
Reply:Realize that the joint design and position of the weld are going to cause the amperage required to weld out a joint to vary.  On 1/4", the amperage range could easily be 130 - 200 amps. For non-critical 1/4" horz T joints and lap joints I'll occasionally resort to welding the joint out with a cursive "e" oscillation. This is done at around probably about 140 -145 amps. Definitely no more than 150 amps tops. Reply:Just to throw out another point of view....The argument was made that buying Miller or was better because they have parts available even after a few years.   That reminded me of several posts on this board about repair costs.  One of the more experienced guys has a pair of 2 or three year old machines that are not worth repairing because the parts are too much.   You can download the Miller warranty.  The Lincoln is a bit harder to find.Searching with the words "expensive board" found several threads in seconds where out of warranty prices were over $750 just for parts.   A couple were over $1500 FOR PARTS.So it might be worth doing the math.   You can buy a $3000 machine with a 2 to 3 year warranty that they stand behind (you pay shipping) or $850 for a machine with a 2 to 3 year warranty that they may or may not stand behind.  Either way, if the machine craps out at 3 years, you will spend another $850... plus labor.Based on that information alone, I'd look at reputation OF THE SPECIFIC MODEL being compared as well as the features of those models.  Comparing a 20 year old model to the one produced today tells you nothing about a company's current quality.Dan  Lincoln warranty;  http://www.lincolnelectric.com/asset...OLN3/IMWS1.pdfMiller warranty;    http://www.millerwelds.com/pdf/warranty.pdf----------------------------Measure twice.  Weld once.  Grind to size.MIG:  Lincoln SP100 TIG/STICK:  AHP Alphatig 200X
