I have to pick it up friday its a 10 swing 36 center to center.I gave 650 it comes with 3 and 4 jaw chucks a coulple drill chucks and thread cutting gears and other tooling. How bad was price and how good is the lathe.will post pisc when i get it or go to topeka ks cl to see pics.
Reply:I think you'll soon find "How did I ever live without it?".I bought a QC54 (Atlas 10" with a quick change) with a worn 3 jaw, 4 jaw, Steady rest, tool post grinder, drill chucks, and a pot of turning tools back in 1972 for $600.  I've added a few things over the years, but not very much.  It's still running on the same belts. It was quite a sales job I gave my wife. $600 was a bit to come up with back then,  but I did it.   I have used it very often for the last 38 years.  I can't imagine not having it.  Heck, even my wife can't imagine us not having it.
Reply:Anything that size that RUNS with what it comes with for that money is a no-brainer..Good luck with it!!...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Sounds very good to me. Very good luck with it.        Sincerely,             William McCormick
Reply:Sounds like a good deal to me.  I have to spend close to $700 for the tooling I want for mine.  So the 3 & 4 jaw chucks with tooling is worth the price of admission.MarkI haven't always been a nurse........Craftsman 12"x36" LatheEnco G-30B MillHobart Handler 175Lincoln WeldandPower 225 AC/DC G-7 CV/CCAdd a Foot Pedal to a Harbor Freight Chicago Electric 165A DC TIG PapaLion's Gate Build
Reply:Hondaman,Congratulations on the new (old) Atlas.  I just bought a South Bend 10K (10" bench mount) about 4 weeks ago and I'm having a blast.  See pics below.  I hadn't run a lathe in about 30 years and am having to learn this stuff all over.So far the only bummer was buying a cheap 3-jaw chuck from a large tool importer in WA that turned out to be a piece of crap.  I returned it and got a Bison chuck instead. Over twice the cost of the Chicom crap but worth it. You've already got a 3 and 4 jaw so this shouldn't be an issue.I also bought a quick change tool post and an assortment of indexable carbide insert type cutting tools...also Chicom...but this time the deal worked fine...go figure.  The tools included a boring bar, threading tool, two turning tools (LH and RH), cut-off tool and all the holders.  I made a couple of small brass bushings for a project I'm working on and this stuff works great.  I highly recommend these.Have fun and post pics.
