Looking for comments on the best electrodes to keep on hand for the Miller Dynasty's? I have a new 280DX on the way and was going to order up some consumables while I was waiting but ran into some questions. The 280DX runner kit ships with 2% Ceriated and that's what the manual recommends also. I'm almost 100% AC Aluminum in my applications and was thinking 2% Lanthanated as my stock electrodes based on what I've used and read about but I'm curious if there is something magical about Ceriated for Miller Dynasty's?
Reply:2% cerated (sp?) Tungsgen color code orange.About the only thing that is happy in my dynasty both ac & dc.Miller Dynasty 200DXMiller Spectrum 250DMiller Millermatic 200Bunch of old blue dinosaurs....
Reply:I use the 2% lanthanated in my syncrowave, for steel and aluminum, it will work great in your dynasty also. Try the e3 hybrid Tungsten it's good, you may like it
Reply:Since you already have some 2% Ce, just order some 2% La in the size you most use. Then you will know which works best for you.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps

Reply:I've used 1.5% lanthanated for many years with multiple Dynasty 200 DX machines, as well as Lincoln Invertec V200, Lincoln PowerTig 275, and Hobart Cyberwave.  Works great for most everything I've tried it on, AC and DC.  Since Sylvania is no longer making tungsten, I've had to use WeldCraft tungsten which is made overseas, but seems to be of decent quality.  Consistent from batch to batch, unlike Radnor/Weldmark, etc.Miller Dynasty 200 DXMiller CP-300 with 30A feederHypertherm Powermax 900Oxy-fuel w/Harris torchesScotchman Glide-in bandsawMonarch 10EE latheEmi-Mec Autoturn latheDeckel FP2NC milling machinePro-Tools 105 Bender
Reply:Thanks all, I'll do as advised and pick up a few pieces of lanthanated and try side by side with the ceriated before I commit to filling my tig stash up. I've got plenty of thoriated and pure from my old unit but I guess I'll have to do the old dog and new tricks routine for awhile until I figure it out.
Reply:I have a 200DX I use 2% thoriated for all steel and 2% lanthanated for aluminum no problem in 3 years.
Reply:I agree E-3 china stuff is garbage. The Tungsten I linked is from Germany, and is excellent. The Pink  band is really good on AC too. Way different then any Red tipped stuff. You can lead a horse only so far, best get some free samples, and find out yourself. I like it better then any 2% lanthanated  I have used.. (ON many inverters)Although I never tried the Diamond Ground blue..Last edited by Brand X; 01-03-2014 at 01:22 AM.Esab/Lorch ET-220iEsab 160i caddyThermal LM-200 Lincoln feedersThermal Pee-Wee 85sThermal 60i- 3phase /RPC powered (Beast)Thermal Drag-gun 35CINE 1500 Klutch 140i
Reply:Weldershane: I will definitely post once I get the new 280 in. My LWS got me a good deal on the full boat tig runner with wireless and beat even all the online outfits, downside is I'm 6 wks out so that's why I'm entertaining myself with tungsten selection in the mean time  The upside is that I was leaning hard toward the 350 so my budget let me pick up a new TD Cutmaster 52 with the difference (sorry Jim! I was looking hard at a Hypertherm but my LWS keeps all the TD stock on the shelf)
Reply:I use Ceriated for both up to about 200 amps 3/32 above that i Use 2% Lanthanated on aluminum 3/32 up to about 275 then switch to 1/8 zincronatedSyncrowave 180 SDMillermatic 250XSnap On MW 120 Econopac 50Victor O/A with some Smith Attachments 30 X 50 shop with a 400 Amps
