Hello,I'm planning to weld a nice dolly for a 4kw gas generator so I can keep oil, toolbox, etc. with it.  It's an older US made unit and well-built (heavy) for its size. The unit is currently on 3" hard rubber casters which only work on concrete... No good on grass/dirt.Has anyone used these tires, or similar from another brand?  http://t.homedepot.com/p/Farm-Ranch-..._fRBoCuHbw_wcBI am also looking at the no-flat equivalent but not sure how durable they are and would typically prefer rubber. I'd much prefer a U.S. Made tire but not expecting to find anything remotely close on price.  Any suggestions much appreciated. Thanks!
Reply:Northern Tool has a good selection of wheels. I'm not sure of COO .
Reply:If you like flat tires those are the way to go! There are not many pneumatics around that are not chinese made, and all the imports seem to not hold air. No flat tires are okay but will take a set when sitting with a load, and dont roll as easy as pneumatics.

Reply:If anyone knows of a reasonable solution....1) Yes, all the wheels and tires seem to be made in China.  The rims are two piece and bolted together.  I suspect the leak is where the rims halves come together.  Maybe weld the rims together and then somehow mount the tires?  I would home a cheap spoon type mounter could do it.  There used to be a lawn mower repair place nearby that charged $10 to mount a tire.  So you buy a $25 tire and spend 40% of the cost to get it mounted....2) There are various web sites that describe using spray foam insulation to fill the tires.  Invariably the closed cells get crushed and you end up with flat spots.  If you can find a foam rubber spray that creates a closed cell foam rubber, you might be able to fill the tires with it.  Online you can find companies that will solid fill the tires but they charge a lot.   Easily more than the tire.3)?   Green slime has saved some pretty bad tires.  But doesn't work on leaking rims.  So I'm out of ideas.BTW, for me, this started with buying a hand cart with "off road" tires.  It was the only one in stock and I needed to move a refrigerator.  Well, it turns out to be the dumbest idea.  Air filled tires bounce.   Two tires on a hand cart bounce at different times and different amounts.  With something like a refrigerator its just as likely to flip the hand cart over.I'll take solid wheels over rubber for anything my butt doesn't have to ride on.Con Fuse!Miller Dynasty 350Millermatic 350P-Spoolmatic 30AMiller Multimatic 200Hypertherm PowerMax 1000G3Miller Maxstar 200DX
Reply:They don't leak because of the rims- they have inner tubes.Buy spare tubes and yer good.4 tires/wheels for 40 bux is CHEAP!Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
Reply:I would use a small high speed trailer tire,  I have replaced most all of my wheel barrows tires, with the trailer tires and I hardly had a flat, and we have cactus and puncture vine,  a standard low speed tire will not last a day many times  and one will need to slim them or more two or three times the normal amount and air them ever time you use them, with the trailer tires, I do not have problems,  and if the hubs are high speed  one can tow things with out worry, the tires will last longer and will not break down near as fast as a low speed tire,IF I can go tubeless I do,  first if they do get a pin hole leak or a nail in it, a tubeless tire will hold air for some time,  a tube tire will go flat nearly instantly,   I have more problems with tube tires on the farm equipment on law mowers and other, another thing with tubes is there very east to pinch or cut when mounting a tire, tubeless is the only way to go IMOabout the only place I use a tube tire is on a two piece rim,  or a split rim.(the inter tubes are so poor any more they go bad in a few yeas any way,)Last edited by Farmerboy; 05-05-2015 at 03:30 PM.
Reply:My theory on the little Chinese tires is the valve.I'm thinking, like all things, they've been copied, and not too well.  God Forbid they should use genuine Shrader valves, and pay the few cents royalty.  Stupid things hold air for no more than a week before they start to go down.  Sometimes sooner"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:See if you can get them foam filled. Or do it yourself.
Reply:I should have thought about this earlier but I think I'll see if I can figure out what tires Generac uses on their pressure washers.  They seem to go for many years without ever going flat.

Reply:http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...-spoked-wheelsI went with 2 of these from Northern Tool and am very happy with them. Makes going over grass...up steps...shells and gravel a breeze. The only thing to be concerned with when you go with bigger wheels is the lateral force puts a decent amount of stress on the axle...especially when making turns. . I used a solid round 1/2" bar and my cart is not that heavy....probably @ 100 #s
Reply:Looks like generac tires don't have a brand molded but they appear to be flat free.  These look like these might be up the right alley:http://www.zoro.com/marathon-flat-fr...A&gclsrc=aw.dsOr this for $7:http://m.harborfreight.com/10-inch-x...not%20providedLast edited by AmericanWelder; 05-07-2015 at 12:18 AM.
Reply:In my opinion, the Harbor Freight wheels with tires about $5.00 each, or their equivalent purchased at surplus stores are a good value for the money.I use 5/8" bolts welded into angle iron as axel assemblies with elastic stop nuts to keep the wheels on the axels.I offer three choices: Good, Fast, & Cheap.
