I have used air die grinders only but thinking of getting a corded one.The 2 that I'm looking at....1 max rpm is 1,900 the other is 25,000.I know the air type spin fairly fast and that's about what I want.So should I go with the 25,000rpm?seems very fast to me.Thanks
Reply:What do you want to do with it?I've got a few at work, smallest is a mini-dremel, then the ones for actually getting jobs done are a blue-point dentist-drill style 1/8" die grinder with carbide bits (spins at around 80k) and a mac and matco 1/4" finishing die grinders (15 and 25k IIRC).Also remember that those speeds are probably obtained at an air pressure higher than your compressor puts out and only when new and lubricated properly.  The things you do with a die grinder tend to kill their bearings.
Reply:My electric die grinder runs about 15k to 8k, no load to full safe load. That 1,900 sounds a little slow. More like rotary rasp speeds. 25 k rpm seems a little scary to me. Nothing but precision tools in that one or they'll come unglued. Reply:I would be using rotary files. We have been putting 2" by 12" C-Channel on a concrete wall through bolted.Once in a while the pre-drilled hole is off just a bit

Reply:Don't let the rpm scare you.  As long as you are using small diameter stones, burrs and files this is what you want and is ideal for "moving a hole".  Be sure to try a carbide burr, expensive but worth it, they cut very fast.Be sure not to try to put any kind of a grinding disc, cut off disc or wire wheel on this as they cannot stand the rpm and will come apart. Also be careful to hold the tool firmly when using inside a hole.  If you are not careful the tool can stop cutting and race around the inside of the hole.I built an engine stand years ago.  Rough cut the slots in the head with O/A and was going to get the slots milled out at a machine shop.  A friend brought over his die grinder with a carbide burr.  Within an hour I had the slots cleaned up and looking like they had been milled. This is one of my favourite tools, I think everyone should have one."The reason we are here is that we are not all there"SA 200Idealarc TM 300 300MM 200MM 25130a SpoolgunPrecision Tig 375Invertec V350 ProSC-32 CS 12 Wire FeederOxweld/Purox O/AArcAirHypertherm Powermax 85LN25
Reply:Just what I wanted to hear.I have a rotary file set http://www.wttool.com/product-exec/product_id/33938 carbide that I use a lot.I just do not always have enough air ...so I guess I'll go with the 25,000 rpm modelThank you for your help.
